Viva Las Vegas! Finally, after weeks of impersonating Emma, Sutton got a real taste of what her twin's life was like in Nevada...bohemian buds, neglectful foster mothers and high-stakes poker, all included!
As you'll recall from last week "Lying Game," Emma's BFF Lexie picked Sutton up outside of juvie, and seeing as she had no place else to go, was offered a crash pad at Lexie's. It wasn't long, however, until crazy Clarice tracked her down, and told her off for ruining her foster-parent racket (she clearly wasn't in it for the love of the kids). But this being strong-willed Sutton and not amiable Emma, Sutton threw the accusations back in her face, leaving Clarice dumbfounded (and me cheering!).
Sutton continued to make waves in Emma's life when she headed to her high school, sparking a flirtation with a very cute boy named Calvin. He even invited Sutton and Clarice to a casino night at his dad's hotel. More on that to come.
Back in Phoenix, Ethan appeared in Emma's room where she apologized for drunkenly propositioning him, admitting that she doesn't want to be a drunken mess her first time—a confession I don't think Emma or Ethan was expecting. Ethan wanted to talk about it, but Emma fled, stumbling into a mysterious conversation Ted and Kristen were having about keeping Emma's birth mom under wraps. Which may be difficult seeing as, you know, Annie escaped from her psychiatric facility.
And called up Char! Another piece of the puzzle emerged last night: Annie is Char's estranged aunt! Which would make Char and the twins cousins! Anyway... Char's mom interrupted the brief phone call before Annie could get any news about the twins. But the unexpected chat wasn't the only happening for Char last night. Realizing Derek wasn't getting any useful info from his new girlfriend, Alec forced Derek to break up with Char. But the bad boy was already smitten. So later, when Derek overheard Char telling Mads about Annie's phone call, he used the tidbit as leverage against Alec, telling him he'd spill only if he could get back together with Char. As much as I hate to say it, Derek is kind of a standup guy. Kind of.
Relationship land was fraught with trials for Laurel and Justin last night too, after Laurel's mom discovered a condom in the wash. Whoops! There goes the whole "I'm not sleeping with my boyfriend in the bachelor pad you provided for him" thing. Ted took Justin to the driving range for a talk, during which Justin apologized for lying because his idol Ted would never do such a thing. Yeah, Justin is totally on to you, dude.
Back in Las Vegas, Sutton somehow convinced Lexie to let her borrow her mom's hooker money to use as the buy in at the casino party, where she was hoping to win enough cash to buy a bus ticket home to Phoenix. But Sutton was having one major losing streak at the blackjack table...until cutie Calvin took over dealing the cards. Though he wouldn't exactly admit to rigging the game, it was obvious he was giving her a hand. A HAND! HA!
Thanks to her winnings, Sutton was back on a bus to Phoenix, but not before a sentimental send off from Lexie, who revealed she'd known her true identity all along. How are she and Ethan the only two who seem to know these twins well enough to tell the difference? It's a bit baffling!
As Sutton shuttled home, Emma intercepted the letter Sutton wrote to her parents, revealing Emma wasn't who she said she was. Put on notice, Emma decided it was time she left Phoenix and said good-bye to everyone. Or almost everyone. Because just as the credits were about to roll, Ethan promised that wherever Emma went, he'd follow. God, he's the best.
What did you think of last night's "Lying Game" episode? Can Derek mend Char's broken heart? Will Ethan really follow Emma? What's going to happen when Sutton returns? Sound off in the comments and on Twitter!
