Forget the tricks. ABC Family is giving "Pretty Little Liars" watchers one tasty treat tomorrow night in the form of a Halloween special, airing at 8/7c. Part of the network's 13 Days of Halloween, "The First Secret" will be especially sweet for die-hard fans seeing as it's actually a prequel, meaning Alison's still alive, Hanna's still hefty and Jenna's still sighted!
We hopped on the phone yesterday with writer-executive producer I. Marlene King to get the scoop on the special episode.
"We spent many hours talking about how the show can benefit from the prequel in the sense that we can invent more mythology," Marlene explained. "We can give ourselves more to work with in present-day episodes... If you were to watch this episode, it connects some dots that we've already laid the ground work for, but it also plants the seeds of new mysteries to come. It's definitely an episode I don't think you want to miss. It's by far the scariest 'Pretty Little Liars' episode we've ever done."
In addition to plenty of thrills and chills, the episode also boasts a few never-before-revealed details, including one of Spencer's long-hidden secrets... That she may be hiding in her hair?
Okay, not really, but have you seen the wig on that one? As you can see in the photo above, the liars flaunt some seriously awesome costumes for this episode, and as it turns out, they had a hand in picking them.
"I talked with each of the girls at length about what they'd like, and they got to participate in that," Marlene said. "For some reason I threw out the idea of Britney Spears to Ashley Benson who plays Hanna, and she was like, 'Yes! But she has to be fat Hanna.' She lived in that fat suit during 110-degree weather while we filmed that episode."
Besides the return of hefty Hanna, keep your eyes peeled for another familiar face. A doll face, that is. "You haven't seen the last of the dolls," Marlene said when we asked about the talking terrors from the mid-season finale. "Those dolls were incredibly creepy, and I will say, you will see some more dolls or at least a doll in the Halloween episode, and you will see more of those creepy dolls in season 2B."
We're shivering already.
Are you on the edge of your seat waiting for the "Pretty Little Liars" Halloween episode?
