While not much can top the awkward factor of the opening scene from last week’s episode of “Girls,” this week’s chapter scales back the uncomfortable sex and replaces it with some saucy solo sex. Yep. That’s not a spoiler, just a tease.
Speaking of teases, there’s a new man on "Girls." An arrogant, self-obsessed young artist named Jonathan (played by the very likable and talented Jorma Taccone) who provides a welcome distraction/attraction for Marnie from her smothering, doormat of a boyfriend.
So what's Mr. Taccone up to on the show? MTV News recently caught up with the very busy writer/director and "SNL" Digital Short master to get a sneak peek of what to expect from his character and if there’s anything to like about him.
"I think he’s the coolest guy ever, that’s how I was playing him," Jorma joked. "No I’m kidding. He’s appropriately cocky and yet trying to be as appealing as he can be. He’s a confident dude who wants to get in the head of women and take them to bed."
If Jorma's description makes the character sound like a d-bag, it's because he is. And yet there's still something hot and likable about him.
"It’s funny because he’s obviously a jaded New York artist guy who’s looking for something new and different," Jorma explained. "He’s always on to the next thing, wants to say the most surprising piece of conversation so that he can get his fix, kind of thing. That thing you do when you’re bored, just trying to shock someone into saying something different because 'we have so little time on this earth, might as well try and be different while you can' sort of thing. I think that’s the appeal in him in that he’s different than [Marnie's] boyfriend. That guy is never going to say anything different and new, which is why she finds him attractive and he sort of knows that and plays on that."
Tune in to HBO on Sunday at 10:30 p.m. to see Jorma's turn on "Girls."
