We just found yet another reason to tune into the "New Girl" season premiere in September: Nineties Indie Queen Parker Posey is set to appear on the hit Fox comedy alongside the New Millennium’s Adorkable Darling, Zooey Deschanel.
According to TVLine, Parker will play the shot girl at a party for Schmidt. The chutney-loving roomie is throwing the bash to celebrate the removal of his cast from down there. Obviously. Parker nabbed the role after Leslie Mann had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict.
Parker has previously been employed by the network on her short-lived sitcom, "The Return of Jezebel James." Now, it’s the return of Parker Posey, alliteration intact.
The news of Parker’s appearance on the show comes hot on the heels of several other casting updates. Recently, the show added more dudes to its cast. On that same September 25 episode, Parker will be joined by "Bent" star David Walton. He kicks off his recurring role as a "classic bad boy type.” Also, Josh Gad from "The Book of Mormon," will play a beer delivery guy named Bearclaw. He works with Nick at the bar. Both guys are potential love interests for Zooey’s Jess.
Zooey recently scored an Emmy nom for her work on “New Girl.” She’s up for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Schmidt—we mean Max Greenfield—is also getting some Emmy love with his nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
What do you think of the addition of Parker Posey? Are you excited for the second season of "New Girl"? (And on that note, should it really still be called "New Girl"?) Sound off in the comments and on Twitter!
