In just four days, the highly anticipated adaptation of Stephen Chbosky's novel "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" will finally open in theaters in New York and L.A., giving us our first opportunity to be infinite with titular wallflower Charlie and his band of eccentric friends.
The film stars a veritable who's who of young Hollywood, including Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, Ezra Miller, Nina Dobrev and Mae Whitman, and all week long, in anticipation of the film's release, we're introducing you to the five pivotal characters of "Perks." Today we meet Charlie's crush, Sam.
Who she is: Sam is an intelligent, outgoing high-school senior who, along with step-brother Patrick, befriends freshman Charlie and exposes him to a world of alcohol, drugs and sex. Charlie quickly develops feelings for Sam, but she insists they will never be anything more than friends, and sets out upon a romance with older man Craig.
Who's portraying her: None other than erstwhile Hermione Granger, Emma Watson. "Perks" is the starlet's first major film project since graduating from Hogwarts in 2011, and it's a part that will no doubt help her conjure up more mature roles going forward.
Emma on Sam: "The same way that Sam is quite hard on herself, I'm a bit of a perfectionist. Finding a way to like my imperfections and accept that I'm a human being and doing my best and finding a way to love myself and respect myself, that was something that really spoke to me," Emma told USA Today. "I had a tough adolescence in my own way, and my friends got me through it. I can relate to the special people who get you through hard times."
