How amazing is the young, talented cast of "Beautiful Creatures," the hotly anticipated supernatural Southern Gothic romance based on the books by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl? Well, here's a hint: When we talked to director Richard LaGravenese, he gushed all over the place about how deeply dedicated to their craft Alice Englert and Alden Ehrenreich were—to the point where they even wowed the Hollywood veterans who were acting alongside them.
"Emma and Jeremy and Viola were so impressed with these young actors," Richard exclaimed—referring, of course, to the old guard trio of Emma Thompson, Jeremy Irons and Viola Davis. And the reason why, he says, is that they're utterly uninterested in becoming tabloid fodder.
"None of the young actors I cast are interested in celebrity," he said, contrasting his cast with the attention-addicted stars of reality television. "These people are real actors. And they're also poets, and artists... Alden is an incredible painter. Alice is a songwriter."
So "Beautiful Creatures" fans, get psyched: when this movie finally hits theaters, you can expect some serious class and epic acting skills. And if you're looking for a final word on just how terrific the fresh-faced cast really is, take it straight from the mouth of their seriously smitten director: "They're really extraordinary young people."
"Beautiful Creatures" hits theaters February 13, 2013.
