Fresh on the heels of yesterday's SAG Award nominations, another Hollywood honors event dropped its big list of contenders this morning: the actors and films and TV series that'll duke it out early next year for the beautiful, gleaming Golden Globes. And while there aren't many surprises on this list for awards season bracket filler-outers, there's a whole lot to love for squealing fangirls who want to see their favorites get some well-deserved accolades and a pretty pretty trophy for their efforts. Who are we psyched to see on the list?
For starters, a half dozen of our favorite ladies scored nominations for Best Actress in various categories. On the cinema side: Emily Blunt for "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen," Jennifer Lawrence for "Silver Linings Playbook," and Anne Hathaway for "Les Miserables." And on TV: Claire Danes got the nod again for "Homeland," Zooey Deschanel is up for Best Comedy Actress for "New Girl," and Lena Dunham is on the list for her performance in "Girls." Plus, more evidence supporting our case that everyone, everywhere, is a "Downton Abbey" fan: Michelle Dockery and Maggie Smith are in the running for their performances as Crawley family members, and the show itself is up for Best TV Drama.
The only minor disappointment on the Golden Globes' contenders list: a shocking dearth of sexy young men, although Bradley Cooper is representing for his role in "Silver Linings Playbook." But that's cool; we'll be happy to make it a ladies' night when the Globes air on January 13. And if you want to peep the list of nominees, click over to MTV News for the uncut rundown!
