World, meet Girl. Entertainment Weekly reports that the Disney Channel series "Girl Meets World," a spin-off of the much-loved TGIF staple "Boy Meets World," has found its titular lead in 11-year-old Rowan Blanchard.
Producers launched a nationwide casting search late last year to find a young actress for the role of Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga's (Danielle Fishel) precocious 13-year-old daughter Riley, from whose perspective the story will be told. Rowan has appeared in "Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D" and "The Back-up Plan."
With a lead in place, more casting announcements are sure to follow, rounding out Riley's junior-high entourage. (We're keeping our fingers crossed for Shawn Hunter Jr.)
Production is scheduled to begin next month, and if ordered, the series should appear on Disney's 2013-2014 slate.
