Happy Monday to us! The CW announced today that they're renewing "The Vampire Diaries" for a fifth season. Not that we're surprised or anything, but it's always nice to know that the network is fully behind one of our favorite shows. Now all they need to do is announce the pickup of "Vampire Diaries" spinoff "The Originals", and we can be pre-excited for the fall TV season.
Along with the "Diaries" renewal, the CW also announced early pickups of other fan favorites "Supernatural" (which will enter its ninth season) and a season two order of freshman hit "Arrow." The network clearly knows when it's got a good thing going; all three shows will continue to air in their current time slots next fall.
"We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on, and now with our new hit Arrow and fan favorite 'Supernatural' on Wednesday night, and the continued success of 'The Vampire Diaries' on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that," said CW president Mark Pedowitz, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. "Not only do [all three] perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially. I’m thrilled to have all three shows returning to our schedule next season."
For those of you wondering about the network's other buzzy shows like "Beauty and the Beast," "90210," "The Carrie Diaries," and "Hart of Dixie," the fates of those programs are apparently still to be determined.
What other CW shows do you hope to see return next season?
