Ashley Benson looks all patriotic on the April cover of Seventeen—what with her we-want-them-now American flag shorts—but inside she’s all ambitious, sharing that one day she’d love to take home a much-coveted Academy Award.
"I love Michelle Williams and Natalie Portman—those are the careers I want," the "Pretty Little Liars" star said in the issue, out March 12. "My goal is to win an Oscar, and I’m going to take the steps to get there."
And she’s definitely making strides towards more mature films. She’ll have to wait and see if her role in the titillating “Spring Breakers” gets her any closer, but she knew that it was a leap she needed to make, regardless.
“We all came from a Disney background, and this was different from anything we’ve done,” she said of her and co-stars Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens. “But we wanted to prove that we’re not just girls who play happy parts. It was such a crazy experience and it was character-building. I’m so proud of all of us. I’m really, really excited for everybody to see it.”
Speaking of her friendship with Selena, she has yet to hear from her regarding her co-starring role in James Franco’s “Boyfriend” parody video. “People thought that I was being mean, but I was just doing what the girl did in the video. It wasn’t a jab at her. But I heard from Justin [Bieber]. He wasn’t happy. Justin is like my little brother since he and my ex [Ryan Good] are so close. Anytime you go through a breakup, the friends get defensive,” she said. “But all is well in that area now.”
