From jumping trains to battling cancer, Shailene Woodley is determined to be your YA everygirl. Months after landing the lead role of Beatrice "Tris" Prior in the big-screen adaptation of Veronica Roth's dystopian "Divergent," the 21-year-old actress has been offered the highly coveted part of Hazel Grace Lancaster in "The Fault in Our Stars," based on the beloved John Green novel, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Published in 2012, "The Fault in Our Stars" follows teen cancer patient Hazel as she falls in love with fellow support group kid Augustus Waters. The book was one of the most celebrated YA novels of of the year, even earning Time's honor of best fiction book of 2012.
John has been working closely with producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey to bring his story to life on the silver screen, and he told EW that he is more than pleased with the casting of Shailene.
βI am absolutely thrilled that Shailene will be playing Hazel in 'The Fault in Our Stars,'β John told the site. βIt means a lot to me that she is a fan of the book, and I know from our conversations that she has a profound understanding of Hazel. Watching her audition, I felt like Hazel Grace Lancaster was talking to me. It was eerie—and very exciting.β
With shooting slated for this summer, and "Divergent" right before (not to mention the currently in production "Amazing Spider-Man 2"), the actress has one busy 2013 ahead of her.
