Jumpin' jambalaya! The long-awaited "Vampire Diaries" spin-off pilot, "The Originals," finally airs tonight, bringing Klaus back to his old stomping grounds in New Orleans, where he learns just how much has changed since he bid au revoir to the French Quarter.
The hybrid won't be alone: along for the pilot ride are siblings Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Rebekah (Claire Holt), in addition to werewolf Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin). And, of course, there will also be a whole crop of new characters to meet over the hour (and get to know even better over the season if the series is picked up).
So before you tune into tonight's episode, get to know five fresh faces from "The Originals."
Charles Michael Davis
Who is he? Klaus' former protege and vampire creation, Marcel is now the king of the Big Easy, and the No. 1 suspect for main antagonist.
"There's a history there, there's a friendship there, but absolutely Klaus is envious of what Marcel has managed to achieve in his absence," Joseph told Zap2It. "Should things come to a head between the two of them, that's where the challenge will be."
Who is she? Sophie's a sexy witch casting a spell of revolution in New Orleans.
"Sophie is somebody who comes from a long line of witches that have been in the French Quarter for hundreds of years, and she's taken it upon herself to lead the charge against Marcel and against his oppression of the witch community. So she's a bit of a warrior," executive producer Julie Plec told Entertainment Weekly.
Who is she? The token human—perhaps she and Matt should talk?—Camille is a college psychology student who catches Klaus' eye.
"She believes that every person has a story, and you just have to dig deep enough to try to get to the bottom of what their story is," Julie explained.
Who is she? Another spellcaster, Davina is rather naive about the way the world works and struggles with her own demons. She's described as "troubled" yet sheltered by her caregivers. We're thinking she'll a few things very quickly after meeting Klaus.
Who is he? Thierry's role in the French Quarter seems to be a bit of a mystery, but he's cute...so there's that. (Hit up the comments if you know more!)
