We've all known for years that Kate Winslet is not, like, a regular mom; she's a cool mom, okay? Hello, the woman has gotten to make out on-screen with Leonardo DiCaprio. TWICE. We're in awe! But Kate's own kids, apparently, had taken a little longer to get wise about the fact that they've got an awesome mother: According to the actress, it wasn't until she snagged the antagonist's role in next year's blockbuster adaptation of the "Divergent" trilogy that her daughter found her career even remotely impressive.
In an interview with MTV News' Josh Horowitz at the Toronto International Film Festival where she was promoting "Labor Day," Kate explained, "My daughter is going to be 13, and my son is almost 10, and they're getting to that age where this is the type of literature they're going to be reading very soon. In fact, my daughter, two days ago, came home from school and went, 'Mom! You're never going to believe it. Rufus came up to me at school and said, 'Is your mom really in 'Divergent'? Is there going to be a premiere? Can you get me a ticket?'"
In other words: "'My daughter suddenly [had a] new-found respect. 'My mum is actually really cool.' I'm just going to go with that. I did it because I wanted my kids to think I was cool."
Mission accomplished, Kate Winslet. Don your flight suit and make for the aircraft carrier.
"Divergent," starring Shailene Woodley and Theo James, opens March 21, 2014.
