FROM MOVIES BLOG: If you followed the source link in our earlier post, on Catherine Hardwicke taking the reins for "The Girl With the Red Riding Hood," you may have noticed that the Variety article also pins the "Twilight" director to "21 Jump Street." That project, adapted from the '80s TV series about undercover cops operating as high school students, already has a script from Jonah Hill. No other announcements have been made however, so it is surprising to see such seemingly big news revealed in such an offhand way.
As it turns out, there was no reveal. Hardwicke's publicist told MTV that "it's too early" to say anything, and that Hardwicke "isn't attached" to the adaptation. While that certainly leaves the possibility open that she could sign on for the project, it might be tough with her plate being so full.

FROM MOVIES BLOG: "Paper Heart," directed by Nicholas Jasenovec, is out this Friday. I've been chatting it up a lot here on the blog, as it was one of my favorite flicks from Sundance in January. I'm also an unapologetic "Arrested Development" fanboy, so anything involving Michael Cera (or the rest of the Bluth family) is immediately on my radar. I never even made the connection that Charlyne Yi was the stoner chick from "Knocked Up" until after I saw "Paper Heart."
But I digress. I'm here today to share a couple handfuls of stills from "Paper Heart" (like the one above). It's a part-documentary/part-mockumentary feature in which Yi travels around, interview people on how they define love. These non-fiction bits are crosscut with dramatized scenes from Yi's relationship with Cera. A funny, fun time, and a sweet alternative to the loud, blaring noise of your typical summer blockbuster.

FROM MOVIES BLOG: I suppose "defy the future" is better than "desecrate the past." Or "raise hell in the present." We have here the shiny, new one-sheet for Jerry Bruckheimer's video game-turned-movie "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time." Rather than strike out in a new direction, a Ubisoft's 2008 entry in the series did, "Sands" is a proper adaptation of 2003's 3-D rendered reboot of the franchise.
The story follows a street urchin named Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) who is adopted as the king's heir as a way to prevent the ruler's biological sons from jockeying for the position. In addition to jealous siblings, Dastan must also contend with a Nizam (Ben Kingsley), a nobleman who has some dastardly plans of his own. Dastan's chief ally is Princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton), who joins him in trying to find the time-twisting Sands of Time before Nizam can.

FROM MOVIES BLOG:One of the cooler movies I saw this year at Sundance was director Nicholas Jasenovec's "Paper Heart," a sort of fiction/documentary hybrid that follows comedienne Charlyne Yi and her search for the meaning of love. Interspersed between on-camera interviews with real people are dramatized scenes of Yi's real-life relationship with actor Michael Cera. It's all very clever and meta, and you'll get to see it for yourself when the movie hits theaters on August 7.
Now I'm here to tell you lucky San Diego Comic-Con attendees that Yi will be appearing alongside Jasenovec and Jake Johnson (who plays Jasenovec in the movie) for a July 26 panel. Fans will be able to catch the trio talking about the movie and answering questions in Ballroom 20 at the San Diego Convention Center between 12:30pm and 1pm. The luckiest among you may even score a "Paper Heart" button, which you can see the design of in the image above.

FROM MOVIES BLOG:I would've been impressed if "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" had settled for just crushing the midnight opening ticket sales record, with a $22 million haul compared to former top dog "The Dark Knight"'s $18 mil. But no. That's not good enough for The Boy Who Lived. Or perhaps I should say, The Boy Who Makes Bank.
Mid-week opening be damned, "Half-Blood Prince" earned a dizzying $100 million worldwide in its first 24 hours of release, according to a report in Variety. Maybe it wasn't such a great idea to delay the "Potter" IMAX opening in favor of "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" ...

FROM MTV.COM:It's kind of amazing to look back over J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" book series.
The first book, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," arrived in the United States at the end of 1998. Three years later, director Chris Columbus' movie adaptation hit theaters. Perhaps more than anything else, fans delighted in seeing their favorite characters from the book series — then on its fourth entry, "Goblet of Fire" — brought to life by a group of perfectly cast actors, led by Daniel Radcliffe's Harry. FROM MOVIES BLOG: Okay okay okay… I know I hinted yesterday that we would be premiering an exclusive clip from from “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” I wasn’t lying at the time either. I genuinely believed that the clip was coming. Unfortunately, the owl bearing the tape was lost in flight and the clip along with it. That’s what we Muggles get for putting our faith in the power of magic. Thank goodness for FedEx!
I’m pleased to report that the clip has now arrived and it is here for your viewing pleasure just below this Block ‘O Text. You’ve got Harry, Ron and Hermione hanging in a bar — apparently wizards enjoy a lower drinking age than we do — and chatting with their new Potions professor, Horace Slughorn. Watch and enjoy.
FROM MOVIES BLOG: For the past few weeks we’ve been watching Megan Fox kick ass and take names in her return trip to Michael Bay’s explosion-laced fantasy world of “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.” Her next silver screen outing will trade all of those shiny robots and eye-catching explosions for blood-slicked surfaces and eye-catching bare skin. In “Jennifer’s Body,” Fox plays a possessed cheerleader who uses her wiles to lure male classmates into a variety of gruesome deaths.
Here we have the latest red-band trailer for “Jennifer’s Body,” via a ShockTillYouDrop exclusive. There’s plenty of violence and suggestive undressing, along with Jennifer’s bestie Needy Lesnicky (Amanda Seyfried) trying to pull her friend back from the dark side. The premise may not have the instant appeal of “giant robots destroy everything,” but presuming Oscar-winner Diablo Cody’s script drips with the same sort of clever wordplay that made “Juno” so fantastic, “Jennifer’s Body” will definitely be one to watch.

FROM MOVIES BLOG: This seemingly minor blip of news is going to be very exciting for a lot of you readers. The third movie entry in the “Twilight” series, “Eclipse,” will shoot at Vancouver Film Studios between August 17 and October 31 (Halloween wrap!), ComingSoon reports. The David Slade-directed adaptation of Stephanie Meyer’s novel will come from a script by series scribe (and occasional “Dexter” writer) Melissa Rosenberg.
The Halloween wrap is perfectly timed to coincide with what will likely be the start of a massive publicity push leading into the release of “New Moon” on November 20. “Eclipse” is currently set for a June 30, 2010 release, a fact which I’m sure that many of you readers are already well aware of. So mark those calendars if you haven’t already, and prepare for an increasing onslaught of “Eclipse” news as the wheels spin faster and faster. Read more...
FROM MOVIES BLOG:Get a load of that Fox fanfare. Just imagine how different "Star Wars" would have felt if that had been in front of it. I know we’ve all seen that before, but the thought still makes me chuckle.
As a treat for y’all today, we’re please to present you with this exclusive premiere of the latest trailer for "Alvin & the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel." It’s exactly what a trailer should be: short and light on story details while giving fans exactly what they want. And what do you want? The Chipettes! That’s right folks.
