Gerard ButlerI think it’s safe to say that nowhere on Earth could Gerard Butler be considered an ugly man. The Scottish heartthrob has been steadily working his way into the spotlight for years with roles in “Timeline” and “The Phantom of the Opera.”  But it was his role as the ripped and skimpily clad King Leonidas in “300” that really made everyone sit up and pay attention. Since “300” he’s embraced his romantic side and opted to make girls cry in “P.S. I Love You,” and wince with “The Ugly Truth.”

While Gerard Butler is the perfect heartthrob we all dream about, his “Ugly Truth” character Mike Chadway is the one we usually meet in real life. In order to balance the scales, and bring the hunky Scot back down to earth, after the jump, we look back on his ugliest roles to date: Read more...

Leo DicaprioFROM MOVIES BLOG:It's been a little over a month since the last Leonardo DiCaprio story, so the busy star must take a summer vacation between projects. Or perhaps director Christopher Nolan is just keeping him really busy working next to Marion Cotilliard? Whatever he's been doing, DiCaprio is fresh and ready to take a journey into "The Twilight Zone."

Variety submits for your approval that DiCaprio and his Appian Way production company will team with Warner Bros. to bring "The Twilight Zone" back to the big screen. They dusted off the property last year, but are taking the first steps of pre-production by hiring screenwriter Rand Ravich ("The Astronaut's Wife") to pen a script. DiCaprio is in good company in revisiting Rod Serling, as Steven Spielberg and John Landis ("An American Werewolf in London") produced the 1983 movie, and both directed segments for the creepy, four-part feature.

Alexander Skarsgard, Kate Bosworth and James MarsdenFROM MOVIES BLOG:Alexander Skarsgard may have lost the chance to wield Thor's hammer, but at least he'll get to terrorize the heck out of Cyclops and Lois Lane. According to Variety, Skarsgard and Kate Bosworth are set to costar with James Marsden in "Straw Dogs," Rod Lurie's controversial remake of Sam Peckinpah's 1971 classic thriller.

Peckinpah's original "Dogs" is the tale of a timid college professor named David (Dustin Hoffman) who relocates to his wife's native town of Cornwall. The distant intellectual immediately alienates the local workmen, who take a fancy to his wife Amy, who is herself feeling neglected by her husband. Tension builds between the couple, and between Amy and the workmen (one of whom is her ex-lover), eventually erupting into savage, horrific violence. "Dogs" was extremely controversial when it was released in 1971, and it remains a film of fierce debate.

Hugh JackmanDo you want to know the five little words that could send any girl's heart racing? I believe they'd be "Ding Dong! Hugh Jackman calling!" What if he came bearing the gifts of a perfect lipstick and foundation? Yes, he's going to toy with us in just such a way, because Variety reports that Fox has bought "Avon Man," a comedy written by Kevin Bisch ("Hitch"), and set it up for Jackman to star in and produce via his Seed Productions.

The story draws a bit from the British comedy "The Fully Monty," and follows a group of car salesmen who are abruptly laid off from their dealership. One man (Jackman) reluctantly becomes an Avon salesman in order to feed his family. While he initially finds his gig to be an embarrassing slam on his manhood, he soon finds that his stunning looks and rakish charm are a big hit, and make him a top Avon seller. He sets out to save the entire town by recruiting all the unemployed men into the cosmetic business in order to win a regional contest. Read more...

alia shawkat You may have thought that "The Runaways" had completed their band's lineup when they finally cast Scout Taylor-Compton as Lita Ford, but there was still one piece missing — the girl who didn't become a Runaway: bass player Micki Steele.

Well, reportedly Floria Sigismondi’s biopic has found its bass player ... but it won't be the real life Steele. According to the Latino Review, Alia Shawkat ("Arrested Development") has joined the band as fictional band member Robin. Read more...

Emma RobertsThe cast of Garry Marshall's "Valentine's Day" is long enough to wear out your eyes. The romantic comedy boasts Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Jennifer Garner, Shirley MacLaine, Bradley Cooper and Ashton Kutcher. But because it just wasn't big enough, The Hollywood Reporter says that they've added three more: Topher Grace, Emma Roberts, and Hector Elizondo. This will be first time Emma has worked with her aunt Julia on the big screen.

"Valentine's" promises to be an ensemble film similar to "Love, Actually" and focus on five interconnecting stories that all take place in Los Angeles, and all on that day of love. THR is silent on what just those stories might be, but they do report that Grace will play a mailroom worker in an L.A. talent agent, and who is dating Hathaway. Emma Roberts plays a teenager who wants to lose her virginity to her boyfriend. Elizondo (who has been in every Marshall movie made) will play MacLaine's husband. Read more...

Katherine HeiglIf there's one genre Katherine Heigl just can't stay away from, it's the one with all the hearts and flowers. It doesn't matter if she's "Knocked Up," or finding "The Ugly Truth," or loving a hitman in "Five Killers." In the end, her cinematic self is always on the hunt for Mr. Right. Her latest project, "Life as We Know It," is really no exception, except that it veers to the dramatic, and away from the raunchy comedy.

According to Variety, "Life" has been kicking around a few studios before finally finding a home with Warner Bros., and landing a leading lady and producer in Ms. Heigl. It centers on two single adults who have their worlds turned upside down when their mutual and married best friends die in a car accident, and name them as caregivers for their orphaned daughter. Two single adults with a new child to care for? I sense that love will spring from that sad situation! Read more...

Zac EfronZac Efron is all grown up, and having quite a year. He's received good reviews for the upcoming "Me and Orson Welles," and "17 Again," and proved to have a lot of staying power at the box office with his starring "17" turn. (He even managed to hold out against "X-Men Origin: Wolverine," which is no small feat!)

Efron surprised many when he dropped out of "Footloose", but he's eager to take on more mature roles, and making good progress by joining projects such as "The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud." According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zac is continuing his movie maturation by landing the lead part in an untitled thriller. Read more...

FrankensteinWhen you can't meet a nice guy, why not build your own dream boyfriend? That's the creepily cute theme of "Enchanted" director Kevin Lima's latest romantic comedy, which is based loosely on Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein." This comes on the heels of a proposed "Bride Of Frankenstein" remake. Reanimated corpses are clearly all the rage...

According to Variety, "Frank" centers on a teenage prodigy who's attending medical school early, working on the cutting edge of cell research. She gets a little overstressed, and her guidance counselor encourages her to take a break from the lab to make some friends. The awkward lass is unsuccessful in her efforts, and she decides to employ her research in piecing together a homespun friend out of the med school's collection of cadavers. Seeing as "Frank" is being billed as a "romantic comedy," I'm guessing she falls in love with her stitched-together creation. And you thought romancing a vampire like Edward Cullen was tricky. Cam GigandetFROM MOVIES BLOG: Earlier this week, I joked about how every week seems to bring a new project for Leonardo DiCaprio. He has officially been beaten by “Twilight” veteran Cam Gigandet, who seems to snag a new project every single day. The latest finds him in Oscar-winning company, as Variety reports that Gigandet will join Adrien Brody, Elijah Wood and Forest Whitaker in “The Experiment.”

“The Experiment” will be directed by Paul Scheuring (”Prison Break”) from his own screenplay. It’s a remake of the 2001 German film “Das Experiment,” which centers on a group of ordinary men recruited to take part in a psychological research study. They’re divided up and put into prison. Some land jobs as guards, others are locked up as prisoners, all with the intent of studying how they react to their assigned roles, and to positions of power and control.
