Britney OldfordThe hottest new hometown on television, "Ravenswood," has gotten exponentially hotter as of this week—not to mention that it also now has much, much more fabulous hair.

Deadline reports that Britne Oldford, along with her glorious gravity-defying curls, has joined the cast of the "Pretty Little Liars" spin-off as a series regular.

Britne was most recently seen on "American Horror Story" as the surprise victim of an alien abduction (or was she?!), and before that, on MTV's "Skins." On "Ravenswood," she'll play Remy—a clique-defying free agent who'll spend her screen time digging for the truth about the mysterious, ancient curse that overshadows the five main characters.

Remember when Darren Criss cracked wise with MTV News about the "Glee" kids all being imminently destined for summer employment of the "wacky cruise ship" variety? WELL. Call us crazy, but we wonder if Darren might've been dropping the sneakiest of oblique hints about (or just psychically tapping into the secrets of) the upcoming season and its peculiar quirk: a big break right in the middle that'll leave us all "Glee"-less for weeks on end while the show does...well, whatever shows do when they take big winter breaks. Skiing in the Swiss Alps, perhaps?

Darren's talk of cruise ship-related drama dreams for the "Glee" cast came just days before the news of the mid-season hiatus broke at Deadline, where the whole entire Fox fall season roundup is available for your perusal and/or use in advance strategizing about how best to program your DVR so you won't miss out on a single must-see show. (Except just kidding, there are way too many exciting new things happening on too many channels for you to actually do that, and it's time to stop dallying and waffling around like a wuss and decide where your loyalties lie, sir. YOU HAVE HEDGED LONG ENOUGH.)

We've already posted once about the superlative looks from Monday night's big gala at the Met—where all the pretty little starlets busted out their weirdest wigs, fiercest makeup and most mesh-and-leather-heavy looks to celebrate the opening of "PUNK: From Chaos to Couture" at the Costume Institute. But we saved the best (and, um, worst) for last, plucking two noteworthy looks from the crowd and keeping them aside for our weekly fashion feature. Who's our Style Superstar today?

It's Dakota Fanning, whose black, bold Rodarte dress was our favorite look from the evening. Dakota went a little less wild than a lot of her fellow attendees—from the front, in fact, you might think that this was just a simple black gown with trendy cutout details. But that peek of black-and-white coming around at her waist is your tip that there's more going on here; the other side of this dress is made entirely of mesh from the bum up, with cool graphic applique wings at the shoulders and wrapping around her lower back. It's a perfect pick for the evening—high fashion at the front, a punk party at the rear!—and while not everyone loved Dakota in this dress, we think it makes her this week's Style Superstar. (Another critic complained that it "looks like a skeleton is grabbing the actress at her waist"—uh, YEAH IT DOES, and it's AWESOME.)

The 5th Wave"The 5th Wave" is one of the most anticipated new books of the year, and not just because they've been teasing us for weeks with Hollywood-worthy book trailers that hint at the amazing, apocalyptic, alien-invasion awesomeness to come. In the capable hands of Rick Yancey (author of "The Monstrumologist"), this first novel in an intended trilogy offers up a juicy, imaginative premise that seems tailor-made to be adapted for the screen: the unheralded appearance of alien ships, hovering in the earth's orbit...followed by a methodical, malicious series of "waves" designed to exterminate the planet's current inhabitants. By the time we arrive in the world of "The 5th Wave," only a tiny percentage of the human race remains—and our numbers are shrinking fast.

In its best moments, this novel is a YA entry into the epic survivalist oeuvre that also includes bestselling crowd-pleasers like Stephen King's "The Stand," Justin Cronin's "The Passage" and Robert Kirkman's graphic-novels-turned-primetime-powerhouse "The Walking Dead." "The 5th Wave" introduces a broad cast of characters and compelling multiple narratives that offer a look at the ruined world through the eyes of several different people: In one, a 16 year-old girl named Cassie wanders through the wasteland of post-invasion Ohio, searching for her brother; in another, a teenage boy known only as "Zombie" trains with other young survivors at a refugee camp to mount a last, desperate defense on behalf of the human race. There's also a single, terrifying chapter of the tale as told by the nameless Silencer—a being whose one and only goal is to track, hunt and kill every remaining person on earth to make way for the incoming aliens.

The SelectionBecause this is the week that television is determined to break our hearts by not moving forward with any of the shows from our pilot wishlist, today brought more bad news: Deadline reports that The Selection," which looked to be getting a second chance after a rewrite and re-casting this year, has sadly been passed over by The CW. Ugh. Not fair! No dystopian romance in "Delirium," no "Bachelor"-meets-"Hunger-Games" drama in "The Selection"... Hollywood obviously hates us and doesn't want us to have nice things.

The only upside (and there is one, thank everything!): Deadline also has the scoop that one of our new favorite CW shows—the retro-fabulous "Sex and the City" prequel "The Carrie Diaries"—has been renewed for another season. Which means that while we cry into our ice cream over having been deprived of the chance to see the long-awaited adaptations of these beloved YA books on TV, we will at least have the not-entirely-unenticing image of Austin Butler in pegged jeans to comfort us.

Blood EdenIf you've been reading Julie Kagawa's terrifying "Blood of Eden" series, you know that the deadly Red Lung disease is serious freakin' business. The plague-like virus has already wiped out most of the world's population, leaving the last remaining humans to live safely behind an enormous wall, in a reluctant symbiosis with the vampires who need their blood to survive. (You know, just in case you thought your spring allergies were a pain in the butt.) And today, in honor of the release of the next book in the series, "The Eternity Cure," we've got a special EXCLUSIVE treat: public health posters based on the events in the series!

They're just like the informative one-sheets in your doctor's office advising you how not to catch herpes—only much more fun, because, y'know, vampires. Whether it's covering your mouth whilst coughing to avoid passing on your innard-liquefying sickness to other hapless New Covingtonians, or registering for a compulsory blood donation in order to keep the vampire overlords well-fed, these posters are just what every good citizen needs to stay alert and aware in times of horrifying blood-soaked death. Hooray!

Check out all four after the jump!

The Great GatsbyThe long-awaited release of "The Great Gatsby" movie is nearly here, with all its attendant hoopla and theme parties and drop-waist dresses hung on flapper mannequins under hand-painted banners declaring it "The Summer of Gatsby." But while a girl can only drink so many champagne cocktails and dance the Charleston for so many hours before she turns from a beautiful little fool into a sweaty Jazz Age mess, you can always get in the Gatsby mood with a good book. So today, before the era-defining deco drama of F. Scott Fitzgerald's story roars its way into theaters, we're highlighting five fabulous novels that "Great Gatsby" lovers can get cozy with.

"Vixen," by Jillian Larkin
A society wedding in the works, a host of sordid secrets and a bride-to-be who just wants to bob her hair and dance the Charleston until she's dragged down the aisle: the first of Jillian Larkin's "Flappers" books plunges readers right into the thick of a 1920s party scene so debaucherous, even the Buchanans would be like, "Whoa."

Richard MaddenHe might be the King in the North right now, but Richard Madden clearly doesn't mind taking a step down the royal ladder; the "Game of Thrones" actor has just snagged his first big feature-film gig in Disney's live-action "Cinderella" as the charming Prince...um, Charming.

Richard will star opposite Lily James, who plays the titular character, in a role that offers quite the change from his current kingly responsibilities of trudging around in a filthy woolen cloak and battling the Lannister armies and lopping off the heads of the traitors in his own camp (but then feeling really bad about it afterward). In fact, Richard might not even have to wield a broadsword in this film at all; traditionally, Prince Charming's entire purpose in the Cinderella story is mostly to sit around being handsome and desirable and generally lusted after by all the kingdom's single ladies. But has his battlefield experience on "Game of Thrones" adequately prepared him for the far more arduous task of looking royally delicious for hours on end? I don't know, you guys. We'd better examine the evidence.
