The glorious spectacle of last night's "Gangster Squad" premiere gallery begins with just seven little words:
RYAN GOSLING IN A THREE PIECE SUIT.
And it only gets better from there! All the stars of this action-packed flick about a mob-hunting pack of sexy policemen in 1950s Los Angeles were out for last night's red carpet, looking very dapper and/or glamorous indeed. Also, Ryan brought his mom as his date; how much cuter can you get?
"The Hunger Games" starlet Jennifer Lawrence was spotted leaving the Chateau Marmont over the weekend, looking less like our beloved Girl on Fire and more like, well, Lindsay Lohan. Jennifer flaunted a black fur coat with white and gray accents over an oddly-slit black skirt—a departure for the actress, who we're used to seeing look more like this.
Now, to be fair, Jen was out having a girls' night, with no red carpet in sight. But we've also seen her do casual much better (and without outerwear from Blanche Devereaux's closet).
But that's just what we think! What's your take on Jennifer's furry fashion? Click past the jump to sound off in our poll!
It's been quiet on the fashion front this week, as Hollywood's finest join the rest of the world in the proud and honorable early January tradition of not leaving the house if you can possibly help it. But on New Year's Eve, the stars were definitely out—particularly in New York and L.A., where the bi-coastal "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" celebration was in full swing despite having lost its marvelous namesake earlier this year. (Miss you, Dickie!) And when it comes to choosing a Style Superstar, it was easy to spot this week's winner seeing "Red" on stage.
Yep, that's right: It's Taylor Swift who takes the honors, with all the props for this decidedly sexy shift from her usual ultra-feminine girly gowns. (Not that we don't love those, too, but it's always nice to see Taylor do something a little more daring.) The singer was fabulously —and warmly!—clad in head-to-toe leather for her main-stage performance in Times Square, complete with a red jacket that looks to be made from the same stuff as Judy Garland's ruby slippers from "The Wizard of Oz"...and that we really, really want to steal for ourselves.
With 2012 coming to a close, the year-end best-of lists are flying fast and furious around the web—and on this blog, we've been considering every conceivable category, from Hottest Movie Sex to Favorite YA Novel to Best Thing Channing Tatum Did This Year (where his revealing performance in "Magic Mike" is currently in the lead about five times over, proving once again that there's nothing the public loves more than a naked, gyrating manbutt.)
And this week, we're bringing you a very special edition of our Friday Style Superstar feature...with five phenomenal red-carpet looks that were the most super of all, and a chance for you to crown the queen (or king!) of this year's fashion scene. Who will be our Style Supernova? Only you can decide between...
FROM MTV STYLE: You know what really fancies up a onesie? A perfectly pretty manicure, that's what! Thank goodness, then, that Deborah Lippmann has concocted a collection of nail lacquers inspired by the four friends of HBO's hit series "Girls."
That's right! Just in time for the show's second season, you can pick up a collection of shades representing Hannah, Marnie, Shoshanna and Jessa.
"Deborah Lippmann's colors are irreverent and classy and I've always coveted them (and stolen them from my mother), so who better to embody the 'Girls'' spirit in polish form," said creator/star Lena Dunham. "I've been wearing Hannah like it's going out of style."
We're personally enthralled by Jessa's Bohemian Burgundy, but you can take a look at the entire collection over (and get pre-order details) at MTV Style!
The days of sunken shag-carpet living rooms, beehive hairdos and two (or three, or four!) martini lunches might be long gone, but thanks to the smarm and charm of the fellows at Sterling Cooper Draper Price, the pop cultural nostalgia for all things swingin' '60s is at an all-time high—and this holiday season, everyone's got a Joan, a Betty, a Peggy or a Megan on their list.
And if you're scratching your head over what to get for your favorite "Mad Men" maven, don't be a square: Check our selection of gifts that run the gamut for mid-century glamour, with everything from deco accessories to divine dresses to a modern take on retro romance. With so much vintage variety under the tree, you might even inspire your giftee to break into an a cappella rendition of "Zou Bisou Bisou."
The critics might have been split on whether Kristen Stewart's sheer chiffon-and-lace beige bustier dress from the L.A. premiere of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" was a style stunner or a fashion faux pas, but at least we can all agree that she's taking it off for a good cause! According to GossipCop, the actress has offered up her autographed Zuhair Murad gown to the Hurricane Sandy relief effort.
This isn't Kristen's first contribution on behalf of the recovery effort since the storm carved a path of destruction along much of the Jersey coast; her dressy donation comes in the wake of an appearance at the star-studded 12-12-12 benefit, where she made a speech to encourage support. And thanks to her latest contribution, the dress is being auctioned online at Charitybuzz as we speak, with proceeds to benefit the Robin Hood Foundation.
We might've been left scratching our heads over some of her "Les Miserables" premiere outfits—and we still can't decide whether those leg-brace bondage heels were an adventurous hit or a ghastly miss—but there was no such confusion over Anne Hathaway's look from the Museum of the Moving Image salute to Hugh Jackman this week. This ensemble? It's pure Style Superstar.
Anne showed off her long limbs and swan neck in this blush-colored Nina Ricci dress with silver sequins, making her a spangled standout in the crowd at the event honoring "Les Mis" co-star Hugh Jackman. And while her similarly fashion-forward ensembles haven't been a hit with critics this month, the actress was a statuesque beauty in this one; she's so effortlessly glamorous that it's easy to forget that the unusual gathered waist and drippy silver spangling would make this a hard look for most to pull off. With a gold box clutch and delicate jewelery—and, of course, her sleek short hair —this is a total knockout. Well-played, Anne.
After Anne Hathaway's white-chenille-curtain meets clown-bridal-couture look at last week's "Les Miserables" world premiere, we spent a good several days examining her outfit from all angles and wondering if maybe, just maybe, the actress (who recently admitted that she'd dress far more eccentrically if not for her place in the public eye) was subtly and subconsciously acting out against the narrow expectations for fashionable celebrities by selecting gowns sure to raise her critics' hackles. Yes, we admit: We wondered.
But we were wrong.
She's not doing it subconsciously at all. THIS IS VERY MUCH ON PURPOSE.
Anne looked confident and poised at last night's New York premiere, wearing an inventive black taffeta dress by Tom Ford that included its own built-in cape (or is it a parachute?). And yet the dress, peculiar as it is, doesn't hold a candle to the shoes: black leather thigh-high stiletto bondage boots with straps galore. Add sleek, slicked-down hair and deep red lips, and this was one striking ensemble. But...well. Can we talk about those shoes? Either they're a bold and adventurous choice that hit all the right notes, or they're the unfortunate outcome of a failed "Project Runway" challenge to sex up a therapeutic leg brace. YOU TELL US. Vote in our poll after the jump!
Why not celebrate the return of "Pretty Little Liars" and the season with a gift or two inspired by the hit ABC Family series? We're back with another holiday gift guide, this one chock-full of items any Rosewood resident would drool over.
Though Aria, Spencer, Hanna and Emily all have their own signature styles, each is something of a fashionista in her own right, mixing on-trend pieces with inherent tech savvy—sussing out A while looking tres chic doing it! Get all the deets on our picks after the jump!
