As Aziz Ansari prepares to join the few, the proud, the notorious group of MTV Movie Awards hosts, the outside world has a couple of questions about the quirky star of “Human Giant.” That’s why Zac Efron and Kristen Bell are here for you, ready to clear up any confusion whatsoever about where he was born and how he saves lives (by dressing up as a pumpkin).
“Aziz was born in the snowy mountains of the Himalayas,” Kristen says of Aziz’s past in a new Movie Awards promo. “He used to put on his dark-blue overalls and just go sit in the snow.”
Who the heck is Aziz Ansari? That might have been the first question that ran through your mind when the official announcement came this morning that he will be hosting the June 6 2010 MTV Movie Awards. Despite his humble Twitter response to the news, Aziz is one of the hottest faces in Hollywood right now. Just look at that winning smile! And chances are that, even if you don't recognize his name (which is impressive with a name like "Aziz Ansari"), you've definitely seen him in a film or on TV before. Or even at last year's Movie Awards!
Like the rest of the Judd Apatow gang that Aziz now runs with, he got his start doing stand-up comedy in New York City. Fittingly, Aziz got his first big break on television with the MTV show "Human Giant," which was a series of sketch comedies. Aziz broke onto the movie scene in 2008 with scene-stealing small roles in "The Rocker," which carried on into 2009 in "Funny People," "Observe and Report" and "I Love You, Man."
Let the great Dex debate begin! As we posted last week, "Melrose Place" stud Colin Egglesfield has been cast to play Dex Thaler, the main love interest in the big screen adaptation of the chick lit book "Something Borrowed." Colin, who certainly fits the physical description of the character (read: unbelievably handsome), beat out the likes of "Twilight" actor Peter Facinelli (both pictured), who seemed none-too-happy about the decision. Peter tweeted today, "What?! I didn't get DEX?! R they on crack? lol Its ok. Instead of S'mthing Brrwd I'm doing S'mthing else.A movie I wrote.Thanx 4 the support." Author Emily Giffin later responded, "Sorry to all the PF fans. Guess it wasn't meant to be."
Peter's "New Moon" costar Daniel Cudmore was also a-Twitter today. He campaigned for the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. Daniel argues that his brief, but brutal (poor Edward!) battle with Robert Pattinson is worthy of some golden popcorn, posting, "I do believe that Rob and I's little tussle deserves a vote for best fight at the MTV awards, don't you think!?" You can still vote for which movies and moments you think should be nominated here!
