When I saw last night’s episode title, the loaded phrase "Heart of Darkness," I thought to myself: Self, is this episode going to be Conrad-esque? Novella-esque? Colonizing Africa-esque? And, of course, it was none of the above. The title merely referred to the darkness that exists in all of us, especially Alaric (whose alter-ego, if you remember, hid that white oak stake in an undisclosed location), and maybe Damon, who had an enlightening conversation with Elena about why he doesn’t always want to show people the good in him (because then people expect too much!), and also Stefan, who had to tap into his dark side to reach Alaric’s dark side, and I guess really everyone, because we could just keep discussing every character’s dark side, but I’d really rather get down to business. Or pleasure. I love how writing these is both!

Let’s recap:

We know the main reason many of you may be hitting theaters this weekend to see the Nicholas Sparks adaptation "The Lucky One." That reason has big blue eyes and rippling biceps, and his name is Zac Efron.

Zac beefed up to play Logan Thibault (pronounced “Tee-bow” like New York Jets QB Tim Tebow), a former U.S. Marine sergeant fresh off three tours in Iraq. When Logan comes home with a serious case of PTSD and an anonymous wallet-sized photo of an attractive woman (Taylor Schilling) that literally saved his life overseas, he gets it in his head to go on a cross-country trek to thank her. He finds this mystery woman, Beth, in a small Louisiana town, where she runs a doggie hotel with her eccentric grandmother (Blythe Danner) and her whip smart, tow-headed son Ben (Riley Thomas Stewart). Romance blooms amid the splendor of the South despite a number of obstacles, not least of which includes Beth’s jealous, gun-toting ex-husband.

While you think you may be prepared for an eyeful of Efron, there are other preparations we suggest you make before heading to the theater that can enhance your viewing pleasure even more. Here are five things to do before seeing “The Lucky One.”

Holy hot boy! What we wouldn't give to be Shenae Grimes right now! First of all, look at Steven McQueen's arms...and chest...and smile...and hair...and what were we saying?

Oh right, wanting to be Shenae. Second, look at her laughing! We can practically hear her cackling as if she was in our office with us. Whatever Steven said or did must have been really hilarious. That looks way too real to just be Shenae's acting.

We're not sure we could see anyone but Robert Pattinson playing Edward Cullen, but our little hearts go pitter-patter at the thought of Dave Franco climbing into our window at night. Don't act like that wasn't the first thing you thought of, too. With his hazel eyes and chiseled jaw, we'd totally let him bite us. And you know what? Kristen Stewart could've had that very opportunity because Dave auditioned for the role of the dazzling vampire.

"I tested for Edward Cullen. I don't know how close I was. I read for Catherine Hardwicke, but who knows," the actor told MTV News when we caught up with him on the set of "Now You See It." "I mean, maybe there were still hundreds of kids left reading for Catherine Hardwicke."

The stuffy old Cannes Film Festival just got a whole lot more interesting!

Get ready to see some of your favorite hunks suited up in tuxes and bathing in the sunny glow of the French Riviera because the lineup for the 65th annual fest was announced today and among the competing films are star vehicles from Robert Pattinson, Zac Efron, Garrett Hedlund, Tom Hardy and Brad Pitt.

Robert Pattinson swings into the prestigious film fest not with his latest adventure as Edward Cullen, but with the film he no doubt hopes will give him the career cred he needs to navigate Hollywood post-"Twilight," cult director David Cronenberg's anticipated "Cosmopolis." A dark and mysterious thriller, "Cosmopolis" is Robert's attempt to break out of the role that created him and prove he is a versatile actor who can do more than vamp (literally). Based on the film's trailer, we're about to see a very different side of the star (maybe literally). "Cosmopolis" looks super sexy—but not "Twilight" sexy; we're talking "I smell sex all over you" sexy, which is a very different thing—and its entry into the Cannes competition shows a lot of faith in Robert as a leading man outside of the "Twilight" franchise.

What's the only thing better than a brand new, just-announced series from two of our favorite authors? Um, nothing! Oh—that is, unless said series comes with some serious buzz attached and a full-blown movie deal already on the table...you know, kind of like what's happened with the shiny new venture by literary heavyweights Cassandra Clare and Holly Black.

The authors (of, respectively, the "Mortal Instruments" series and the "Spiderwick Chronicles") are collaborating on a five-book middle-grade saga about a 12-year-old boy on a journey of magical self-discovery, which will be published by Scholastic over the next several years. And the hullabaloo surrounding the deal is so intense that Constantin Films has already snapped up rights (led by the same producer who's handling the movie adaptation of "Mortal Instruments," so you know it's in good fanboy hands.)

For the upcoming romantic drama "The Lucky One," stars Zac Efron and Taylor Schilling may not have had to repel from an 85-story building or jump from a runaway bus, but they did have to undergo a certain amount of physical training for the project, namely of the canine variety.

In the film, Zac plays a former Marine in search of the woman whose photo he finds in the rubble of Iraq. He discovers she's a dog groomer/trainer and ends up taking a job at her animal boarding business, scooping poop and nuzzling pups. And it seems the experience left a lasting impression.

"Now I can't handle my friends' dogs that are disobedient," Zac said when asked if any of his training stuck with him. "After we had the best dogs."

Stephenie Meyer has built quite the empire since introducing us to the Cullen clan. Aside from her "Twilight Saga" success, her body-snatcher fantasy "The Host" is currently filming and will make its big-screen debut March 2013. But if you think our favorite vampire novelist will only work on her own projects, think again.

Variety reports that, in partnership with Fickle Fish Films, the author has optioned the YA suspense novel "Down a Dark Hall" and will serve as one of the producers. The book was penned by Lois Duncan, the same novelist who wrote "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and "Hotel for Dogs."

With so much focus on the stunning look of "Snow White and the Huntsman"—the Gothic take on the traditional fairytale that promises amazing stuntwork, lavish sets and eye-popping visual effects—we'd almost forgotten to get the skinny on the performances in store for audiences by the seriously A-list cast. But if you were worried that the humans at the center of this Snow White story would be out-shone by all those special effects, well, director Rupert Sanders cleared up those concerns in a hot second for our Summer Movie Preview week.

Sanders had enormous praise for his leading ladies—both Kristen Stewart, who plays the titular princess, and Charlize Theron, who went seriously dark as Snow's nemesis the evil queen. Of his heroine, the director said, "Kristen is a visceral and intuitive actress," going on to explain that her deep understanding of Snow White's psyche (not to mention her willingness to ride horses over treacherous terrain or leap from great heights into icy cold water) helped inform his view of the character as well.

We've been crushing hard on the first book in Julie Kagawa's upcoming "Blood of Eden" series ever since we first revealed the creepy-sexy cover back in December—and the good news for this dystopian vampire drama just keeps getting better! The trilogy of titles kicks off with "The Immortal Rules" next week, but Palomar Pictures didn't wait around for the official release date; the movie studio has snapped up rights to the whole entire thing, with much excitement on the part of principal Joni Sighvatsson (also known as the producer behind "Killer Elite").

The story of a recently turned vampire who, in her pre-fanged life, was part of a small group of revolutionaries intent on eradicating the dominant race of bloodsucking fiends from the face of the earth, "Immortal Rules" has all the elements that make for a perfect book-to-film transition: supernatural battles, personal struggles, a post-apocalyptic setting and lots and lots of bold and bloody action that'll look simply marvelous on screen.
