It would be great if we all could age as well as Barbie, because as she turns 51 today she looks just as good as she did when she was born back in 1959. In light of her celebration, we'll be kind enough to not point out that Barbie was the original queen of plastic surgery, though we're pretty sure Lisa Rinna and the Octo-Mom are working really hard to earn that crown. We also don't want to spoil the mystery of how Barbie has survived all these years without serious ankle and neck problems.
But Barbie is more than just a pretty face. She has worked her way into our pop culture beyond just her straight-to-DVD movies that show off her many, many skills and hobbies and her ability to constantly change her fashion style. We would like to show our appreciation for Barbie's 51 years in the business with a little look back at her most memorable pop culture appearances.

It seems like someone was reading our diaries from elementary school because they are finally making a live-action film about Barbie. Variety reports that Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to make a film about the most famous blonde in the world. And since there has yet to be a storyline, director, writers or actors attached to the flick, we here at Hollywood Crush would like to place ourselves in the casting director's chair for just one moment.
With Hollywood teeming in bevies of blondes who would most likely kill each other for the chance to play the famed doll, we narrowed our list down to five likely starlets who we think resemble the iconic Barbie in some way or another. And, we decided that since Tyra Banks already starred as a doll in "Life-Size," she had her chance. So, now let's give some others that opportunity.

Barbie's had a busy week. First, Mattel announced they would be releasing Barbie and Ken versions of "Twilight"'s star-crossed lovers Bella and Edward. Now comes news the 50-year-old icon will be fashioned into the likeness of "Project Runway" host Heidi Klum. Forget mid-life crisis, it sounds like poor Barbie is having an identity crisis!
According to E! Online, the German supermodel's mini-me will be part of the Blonde Ambition collection, which already includes doppelgangers of Goldie Hawn and Marilyn Monroe, and will be in stores later this year. Read more...

What girl doesn't dream of snuggling up to her very own granite-bodied Edward Cullen every now and then? (Me: Guilty as charged!) Well, if you're willing to trade stone for plastic, you're in luck. Mattel has created its own Edward Ken doll complete with "shimmering complexion" and "trademark gold eyes." And if it's your thing, you can order a Bella Barbie, too. (The Toys "R" Us site, however, recommends this doll for people aged 6-7 years, but we're guessing they don't quite understand how vast the "Twilight" universe actually is!)
Mattel isn't the first company to jump onto the Edward Cullen doll Volvo bandwagon. Earlier this year, we test drove another set of Edward and Bella dolls, which from the looks of it, had a little more meat to clutch onto while propelling 500 feet up a towering Evergreen. Read more...
