Further proof an actor should think twice about turning down a badass bloodsucker role: Directors watch vampire dramas too.
MTV News recently caught up with "Battleship" helmer Peter Berg and the film's leading man Alexander Skarsgård (whom you may know as Eric from HBO's "True Blood") at Toy Fair, and the director let it be known he's been following Alex's work on a certain sexy series.
"I was a fan of 'True Blood' [and] all the girls in the office stormed my office and demanded that we cast him," Peter said of offering the role to the Swede. Of course, with the topic of "True Blood" on the table, I had to ask Alex for any and all hints about the upcoming season, set to debut this summer.

Last night's big game included plenty of ogle-worthy manmeat on the field of play (Jason Pierre-Paul in spandex pants, anyone?), but the crushworthy content of the Super Bowl didn't end there: During the commercial breaks, we were treated to two separate trailers for movies starring the delicious Taylor Kitsch. First there was "Battleship," in which Taylor was all hands on deck for an explosion-riddled battle against starfish-handed aliens armed with giant roly-poly death machines! And then, there was "John Carter," in which...well, something about Mars and an intergalactic war? We're not sure; we were just the slightest bit distracted by the fact that Taylor apparently spends the whole film wearing nothing but a few teeny strips of strategically-placed leather on his well-muscled bod.

Point is, this is going to be one deliciously Kitsch-y year in Hollywood, and it'll be a serious thrill to see Taylor make the move from playing a small-screen football star on "Friday Night Lights" to battling aliens in not one, but two fab feature films. There's just one dilemma: Which Kitsch is hotter? The leather-strap-wearing, long-haired renegade of "John Carter," or the crew-cut, clean-shaven, all-American military man of "Battleship"? Ugh, decisions. You tell us by voting in our poll after the jump!

"True Blood" star Alexander Skarsgård is one of the best presents Sweden has ever given us—aside from meatballs and Ikea. We could go on and on and on about why he makes us swoon but, really, just looking at him explains it all. That's why he's this week's Hump Day Hottie.
Check out this dreamy photo of Alex, and then keep reading for more details about him!

Vital stats: The 35-year-old hunk was born to be an actor. His dad is Stellan Skarsgard (who you may remember from "Good Will Hunting" and the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies), and he acted a bit in his youth. But, Alex is more than just a pretty face. He's also done some time in the military, where he was in a unit that dealt with anti-sabotage and anti-terrorism. And he eventually went to university. Two to be exact: Leeds Metropolitan University and Marymount Manhattan College, before he decided to finally go into acting for good.
Oh, yeah, he's single again. Thank. Goodness.

Why do we love Alexander Skarsgård so much, you might ask? Is it because he refuses to wear a modesty patch during his many nude scenes in "True Blood"? Is it because he's 6'4", blond and drop-dead-gorgeous? Is it because he's just that goddamn sexy? Well, it's all of the above and more, and fortunately all of those reasons collided in a recent interview he gave to GQ UK.
Everyone's been jumping on what Alexander had to say about working with Rihanna in "Battleship"—"She's great, she's really really good in it and her working... She's got a crazy schedule. She's really diligent and I'm impressed"—but we were more excited by what he said about that Rolling Stone magazine shoot and how he originally tried out for Bill in "True Blood."

Oh, Alexander Skarsgård, how you made us swoon when you walked out at the Emmy's and presented using your Eric Northman accent, and how you then proceeded to confuse the heck out of us when you talked with a southern twang at the HBO Emmy's after party. You're a method actor, we understand, but you just finished wrapping a Swedish film, for goodness sake! Shouldn't you be talking with a bit of a Swedish lilt?
Unless, that is, you were just getting in character for "Battleship," which you flew out to start filming today. We don't know for sure if Alexander will be playing a southern commander, but we wouldn't put it past the film pitting the US Navy against invading aliens. Alexander was willing to shed some light on the upcoming film when we spoke to him on the red carpet.

Who would have thought that one of the most "wait, what are they adapting?" movies to be announced in 2010 would end up with one of the most beautiful casts around? Not us, that's for sure.

Yesterday, it was announced that Brooklyn Decker would be joining the likes of Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgard and Rihanna in the upcoming board game adaptation "Battleship," and that got us thinking of other films — past and present — that have wowed us with their beautiful casts. Strange trend: the nerdier the film, the better an attractive ensemble it has.

We'll be honest, when we first learned that Rihanna was going to make her acting debut in the upcoming flick "Battleship" (based off the board game), we were pretty surprised.
We love Rihanna as a singer, but as an actress? Really? Of course, we probably shouldn't be too shocked. After all, It's not uncommon for musicians to make the big-screen leap. In fact, many pop-tarts have paved the way for Rihanna (although, not always successfully!).
After the jump, check out our list of singers who made Hollywood debuts and find out ones which one proved their big screen worth and which ones totally bombed.

What’s this we hear? Rihanna is helping to bring a board game to life? Yes, you heard it right. According to Variety, the pop star is set to star in “Battleship,” which is currently in production from director Peter Berg.
The feature film, which is based on the classic board game, marks Rihanna’s very first acting gig. The 22-year-old has had much success with her hit songs and winning two Grammy Awards with “Run This Town” this year alone.
But now, it’s onto acting for the Barbados bombshell. And with this movie in the works, has the music ship “sailed” for her? We couldn’t imagine, but who knows in this entertainment world!

Ladies and gentlemen, meet the most genetically gifted family to ever grace the big screen: sexy "True Blood" vampire Alexander Skarsgard has just signed on to play the dreamy older brother of "Friday Night Lights" hottie Taylor Kitsch in the live-action film version of the board game "Battleship."
According to The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog, Alexander will play "a straight and narrow naval officer" whom [Taylor's character], a wildly spirited naval officer, idolizes. " You know what that means? Uniforms. Swoon.
