It was exactly 30 years ago today, Dec. 8, 1980, that the world lost one of its most influential and important artists—John Lennon. The musician, and one of the founding members of The Beatles, was slain outside of his New York City home by a crazed fan. He was only 40 years old. The world hasn't been the same without him, and many celebrities took to their Twitters to remember the legend. Singer Eric Hutchinson wrote, "R.I.P. John Lennon. 30 years later we still miss you" and rapper Asher Roth reflected, "30 years of remembering John Lennon." Actress Taryn Manning paid tribute in her own way, telling followers, "Today all Beatles!!! We will never forget u John Lennon!!!"
Thankfully, there was a little levity on such a solemn day. Friends and fans of Ian Somerhalder (pictured) wished "The Vampire Diaries" star a very happy birthday as he turns 32. He had so many wishes, in fact, that it started trending! "TVD" executive producer Julie Plec noticed, "The power of fandom. 'birthday ian' is trending. Love it. #happybirthdayian. Love you, @iansomerhalder," as did the birthday boy himself, who wrote, "My birthday is trending? Wow, that's really cool- I feel warm and fuzzy all over. I simply have the BEST fans in the whole damn world."

After a practically spoiler-free summer, news about "One Tree Hill"'s eighth season is finally starting to trickle out. We couldn't be happier! Today's "OTH" news update includes three (three!!!) big scoops about the series.
First up: more deets on the "Life Unexpected"/"OTH" crossover episode. Joining Haley and Mia at Cate and Ryan's radio station concert will be musicians Sarah MacLachlan and Ben Lee. Perfect, we think—they're exactly the right kind of folky pop that Bethany Joy Galeotti does so well, so Haley will fit right in to that lineup. Plus, as our friends at Zap2It reminded us, Haley chose a MacLachlan song the first time she performed for her now-hubby.

Chad Michael Murray back on TV? It's true! Sadly, it's not on "One Tree Hill," but we'll take what we can get. CMM will join "Pretty Little Liars" star Ashley Benson and pop star/actress Christina Milian in the ABC Family original movie "Ex-Mas Carol."
According to Just Jared Jr., the movie follows a gorgeous public relations maven who is immersed in her work, but gets a wake-up call after one of her clients falls into a coma and becomes a "Christmas Carol"-like ghost of Christmas past, present, and future, making her realize the error of her ways and reuniting with an angry ex-boyfriend. Essentially, it sounds like "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" mixed a little more closely with the original Charles Dickens source material, with a lady in the lead.

It was impossible for us to NOT take notice when everyone’s favorite (former) “One Tree Hill” star, Chad Michael Murray, resurfaced recently in the new Alicia Keys music video for “Unthinkable.” The vid pretty good, but the real fun starts with the time traveling, each era marking a different Lucas Chad. Naturally a flipbook full of his recognizable decade-inspired styles ensued at MTV News headquarters. Basically, we couldn’t help ourselves — the album practically created itself.
In the first of Chad’s transformations — well, the second if you count the two seconds he sits outside Alicia’s house in the truck — the former “One Tree Hill” star readies to rumble with Alicia’s brother. We’re just not sure if his pompadour is a good intimidation technique, or if it can possible serve Chad well in a fight against a dude who’s a little bigger and badder… In future throw-downs he might stand a greater chance if he looks less like Kenickie from “Grease.”

As we get ready to raise our glasses of champagne and ring in the New Year with a stanza of "Auld Lang Syne," it's not only a time to look forward but also a time to reflect on the past. The '00s brought us a lot of moments we won't soon forget, including some seriously memorable New Year's Eve bashes hosted by yours truly, MTV. We had such a good time partying over the past decade, we're having a hard time picking a favorite moment. Do you have one? Let's do a little recap to refresh your memory.
2001
Way back in 2001, when boy bands like 'N Sync and Backstreet Boys still rocked the charts, Lance Bass helped us ring in the New Year. A slew of stars watched the ball drop in 2002 including Jaime Pressly who co-hosted the night with Carson Daly. Willa Ford was there as was O-Town (remember them!?!), Mandy Moore and Ja Rule.

Every day a multitude of stars wanders through the halls of MTV News to talk about their latest projects and goof around with staff members. But sometimes we catch stars elsewhere, and that's why we put together Spotted!, a daily compendium of stars in the wild.
Ben Affleck and Demi Moore are definitely going to have lots to discuss next time they run into each other on a red carpet. Both of their attractive spouses (Jennifer Garner and Ashton Kutcher, respectively) were seen massaging their lip muscles over the weekend as they filmed a scene for the upcoming ensemble flick, "Valentine's Day." With so many A-listers headlining this rom com (yeah, we made a chart to figure it all out ourselves), we can't wait to see which other thespians end up in steamy scenes like this one!
