With the her latest novel out today, author Aprilynne Pike shares her "Earthbound" playlist with Hollywood Crush.
I have a confession. And it’s pretty terrible.
I don’t listen to music while I write.
I know! I shouldn't be saying such things on MTV.com! But it’s true. So playlists are always a little different for me because I make them after the book is finished and just listen to them for fun. But there are some advantages, I think. When I start writing a book, I only vaguely know the characters and the story is still a seed. But by the time I’m done, I know these characters like family and the story is totally set. So in some ways, I think my playlists are even better because I get to really pick the perfect songs. Here’s my playlist for "Earthbound," which I’ve been listening to when I run in the mornings!
A sole survivor, a terrifying conspiracy and a devilishly handsome dream-boy who might just reveal the secrets behind one teenage girl's unusual past—if she'll only betray her longtime love to join him? Um, yes, please: with a plot like that, you can sign us right up for a copy of Aprilynne Pike's deliciously twisty new novel "Earthbound," which hits bookstores this summer. And you can also keep it right here to ooh and ahh with us over the cover, 'cause we've got the EXCLUSIVE scoop on just how pretty this book will look on your bedside table come July.
The story: Tavia, the "Earthbound" heroine, is the sole survivor of a plane crash that killed her parents and left her in the keeping of an aunt and uncle. She's safe, she's happy, she should be able to move on with her life. But she can't shake the feeling that something's not right—not when she keeps having visions of a beautiful, alluring stranger who wants her to leave her family and flee to Maine, and not when it starts to look like the accident that orphaned her was part of a plot to end her life. Soon, she's on the run with no one to trust...except the boy who has been by her side every step of the way, and whose heart she'd have to break to learn the truth about who she is. (And if that split-image cover with its mysterious, floating bubble boys doesn't perfectly convey the emotional trauma of love triangles, we don't know what does.)

It's fair to say that Gael Garcia Bernal is muy caliente! And so in honor of his undeniable babeness, his native country's national holiday of Cinco De Mayo and his upcoming role as the slightly clueless Victor in the adorable romantic flick, "Letters To Juliet," we here at Hollywood Crush decided to make Senor Garcia Bernal this week's Hump Day Hottie.
Press play on the video below to see more of Gael, and then keep reading for more details about him!
Vital Stats: Gael, 31, was born in Guadalajara, Mexico and he began acting at a very early age. He was an infant when he began starring in telenovelas, which he starred in right through his teens. Also, Gael is a bit of a do-gooder. He taught Huichol Indians how to read and he has a political side having been involved in the peaceful demonstrations during the Chiapas uprising in 1994. He's a dad to his son Lázaro, who he had with fellow thespian Dolores Fonzi.
