There are plenty of good reasons to see Stephen Chbosky's "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" this weekend, but if you're looking for a few naughty reasons, we can offer up at least one: Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller in their underwear.
The film stars Logan as titular wallflower Charlie, who begins his first year of high school friendless, until upperclassmen Sam (Emma) and Patrick (Ezra) take him under their wings and introduce him to their eccentric band of misfits. One of the group's hobbies is staging a weekly production of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," and if you've seen the cult classic, you know the costumes are, at times, miniscule.
How did the stars feel about sauntering around onstage in their skivvies?
"We had a moment for like an hour-and-a-half before doing it, I was like, 'Look, can I just wear the bigger underwear?'" Logan recalled. "And everyone's like, 'No, it's going to ruin everything—the shock value, it's not going to be there unless you go out in a thong thing.'"
"You had to do the Speedo," Ezra agreed.
One of the best things about doing our MTV First interviews with the cast of upcoming films is the moment when we open up the floor to you—yes, you!—with the great fan-submitted questions that come to us via the intertubes. And when Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller sat down to talk about "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," the first question that came from Twitter was a great one: Which was the most difficult scene to play?
At first, we didn't get an answer so much as a delightful display of camaraderie from the cast, as Ezra turned to his couch-mates and said, "Remember when we were doing the last scene in the diner? And for some reason, we were all tired and we just didn't feel right..."—a question that quickly devolved into all three actors chattering over each other like a group of real-life BFFs. Um, guys? This is adorable, but please! Focus!
Fortunately, Emma came through with a thoughtful response:
"When I read our first kiss scene, it's so epic, it's the most beautiful scene I've ever seen written on a page," she said. (The "our" in question is Emma and Logan, by the way.) "I was like, oof, we're really going to have to kill this one."
In case you missed the big to-do, the cast of "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" debuted an EXCLUSIVE, brand new, never-before-seen clip from their upcoming film right here on MTV last night—and after, they stuck around for a special 30-minute MTV First interview with Josh Horowitz!
With our show's title being what it is, it only made sense to grill Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller on some of their own special "firsts"...although not, based on the embarrassed groans coming from Logan, the sort he was afraid we'd ask about. (Don't worry, Logan; we're keeping it strictly PG.)
Here's what the stars had to say about...
You can't talk about "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" without talking about music—specifically, the emotionally loaded musical messaging of mixtapes. (For those not in the know: Charlie, the narrator of the book, at one point channels his feelings for his new-found friends into what may just be the greatest mixtape in the history of American literature, and possibly the world. You can listen to it here.) So, when we got the three major stars of the "Perks" movie in our studios for a chat, MTV News' Josh Horowitz had to ask the obvious question: Do they do the mixtape thing, online or otherwise?
Emma Watson jumped in first, exclaiming, "I make mix CDs all the time. I made one for these guys!"—indicating her co-stars. And Ezra Miller remembered being "involved with some mixtape processes with my sisters, growing up. We made a lot of mixtapes, for road trips."
But the lone holdout—and saddest story—from the mixtape debate was Logan Lerman, who confessed, "I kinda stopped."
Stopped? Stopped making mixtapes? But...but why?!
The cast of "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," including Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller, stopped by MTV News to debut an EXCLUSIVE clip from their deeply moving film...and it did not disappoint. Not only were we introduced to the new crime-fighting duo of Slut and The Falcon (move over, Batman and Robin!), but we got to witness the stars' cute chemistry in action.
In the film, Charlie (played by Logan) is a soft-spoken loner until he's befriended by older students Patrick (Ezra) and Sam (Emma). It's during a post-game snack sesh that this clip picks up—a scene in which Charlie asks how long the two have been dating. Except, well, this is awkward. Patrick and Sam are most definitely not an item since they're step-siblings.
Countdown to Charlie crushing on Sam in 5, 4, 3...
Grab your well-worn copy of Stephen Chbosky's beloved novel and take a seat, because you're right where you need to be for MTV First: "The Perks of Being a Wallflower." Stars Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller are here to not only debut a never-before-seen clip from their film, but will be sticking around for a whole 30 minutes to talk with our own Josh Horowitz about making the high-school drama, which hits New York and Los Angeles theaters on Friday and will expand to select theaters on September 28.
So when the clock chimes 7:56 p.m. be sure to click play on the video above to witness all of the hijinks. Because with these three sharing a single couch, you know there will be hijinks.
In just four days, the highly anticipated adaptation of Stephen Chbosky's novel "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" will finally open in theaters in New York and L.A., giving us our first opportunity to be infinite with titular wallflower Charlie and his band of eccentric friends.
The film stars a veritable who's who of young Hollywood, including Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, Ezra Miller, Nina Dobrev and Mae Whitman, and all week long, in anticipation of the film's release, we're introducing you to the five pivotal characters of "Perks." Today we meet Charlie's crush, Sam.
In just 24 hours, the cast of "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" will help debut an EXCLUSIVE clip from the film and dish the dirt with a 30-minute online interview with our own Josh Horowitz! (You know, just in case you were wondering why the staff of Hollywood Crush is currently running in circles around our desks and squealing with unrestrained glee.) And while there's no saying for sure what sort of shenanigans might occur when Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller drop by, it's a fair bet that the cast will be up for anything...as evidenced by their incredible good sportsmanship during this episode of After Hours, "American Talk: When Cultures Collide."
While American Talk usually centers on testing British thespians' ability to talk like good ol' boys, the mixed nationalities of the "Perks" cast (one Brit, two Americans) saw Josh Horowitz testing the actors' mettle in different ways—first by asking them to identify given celebrities as either British or American. (Hint: If someone asks you to identify Justin Bieber's country of origin, it's a trick question.) And this time around, the guys from this side of the pond were put to the test as well, trying their hand at an authentic pronunciation of such Brit-icisms as "bangers and mash," "queue" and "eh, guvnah," while a delighted Emma Watson cheered them on.
What are the Perks of tuning into MTV? Oh, you know, just an EXCLUSIVE sneak peek at the highly anticipated "Perks of Being a Wallflower," courtesy of stars Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller. Yep, the trio are stopping by our fair network to debut a never-before-seen clip from their film, followed by a 30-minute sit-down with Josh Horowitz on MTV.com.
What exactly will they be talking about? Well, you'll have to tune in to find out, but considering the film's source material, sex, drugs and, of course, rock 'n' roll, could all be on the agenda.
The fun happens Tuesday, September 18 at 7:56 p.m. ET.
Starlets Emma Watson and Nina Dobrev were anything but red-carpet Wallflowers at the premiere of their upcoming lit adaptation, held last night at Hollywood's Arclight Cinerama Dome. The lovely ladies were joined at the fete by cast mates Mae Whitman, Ezra Miller, Dylan McDermott, Kate Walsh and Logan Lerman in spirit (and in cardboard) to celebrate the coming-of-age tale, which hits theaters in limited release September 21.
Emma (who plays Sam in the film) opted for a sleek look, flaunting a tiered, cream-colored Giorgio Armani halter dress with scattered beading detail. Sans accessories, the actress kept her look simple with a slicked back 'do and red lips. Co-star Nina (who plays Candace) was red hot in one of her favorite hues (coincidence that it's the color of blood?!), looking fierce in a scarlet Reem Acra dress with lace detail.
