Every day a multitude of stars wander through the halls of MTV News to talk about their latest projects and goof around with staff members. But sometimes we catch stars elsewhere, and that's why we put together Spotted!, a daily compendium of stars in the wild.
It's been a busy couple of weeks for Rihanna. The singer has been jetting between interviews — including an emotional sit down with "20/20" anchor Diane Sawyer, in which she opened up about her abusive relationship with Chris Brown — while also promoting her new album Rated R, which comes out in a little over one week.
But amidst all the chaos, the Rock Nation princess, got some much deserved recognition Monday night at Glamour magazine's "Woman of the Year" ceremony in New York. Rihanna, who recently told Glamour that she hopes to be a voice for domestic violence, attended the event where she was honored, along with other women (i.e. Michelle Obama and Serena Williams) wearing a cascading couture evening gown by Stephane Rolland. Needless to say, she looked stunning!

When you think of Rihanna, most people picture her fierce haircut, punk glam style and the heartbreaking story of her recovery process in the last few months since her incident with Chris Brown. What few people think of is that fact that Rihanna was just a plain 15-year-old girl when she started off, fresh off her home island of Barbados, shyly auditioning for Jay-Z to try to find a break. And a break is actually what she got — she got signed onto Def Jam Records, and her first single “Pon De Replay” was in the top 10, and as Rihanna puts it in her new interview with Glamour, she “Went to bed as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears”
Upon Rihanna’s instant success, the star’s fame has snowballed. Even now at the young age of 21, she has more sold 12 million albums, and has had four #1 hits — statistics most artists won’t see throughout their entire lives in the music industry. Arguably just as important as Rihanna’s music accomplishment, has been her social and cultural influences in the United States as well. As Rihanna describes, she has opened up her style in the last few years to really represent another creative outlet. “The Rihanna” hairstyle has blown up in the US, as well as her “mash up of Paris couture and street punk” that every downtown girl tries to replicate.

Sultry actress Scarlett Johansson may have played a home-wrecking 20-something in this year's "He's Just Not that Into You," but in real-life, she's busy setting up house and making music. The actress, who was 23 at the time she walked down the aisle, opens up in Glamour's November issue, about the relationship.“I never really thought about getting married—it just kind of happened," she said. "You hope that a relationship makes you better, that you learn things about yourself. … I feel more confident to explore things within myself that I hadn’t thought about in the past.”

Life couldn't be better for country cutie Taylor Swift. The 19-year-old singing sensation recently won Album of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards (the youngest person to ever do so), and she can boast that she outsold the likes of Britney, Lil Wayne and Coldplay last year. And now, Taylor is embarking on a 52-city tour with opening act and BFF Kellie Pickler. The girl who grew up on a Christmas tree farm opened up to Glamour about naming names, early career failures, and the perils of dating.
Anyone who's grooved to tracks like “Forever & Always” knows Taylor isn't shy about telling it like it is, even if it's at the expense of a certain Jonas brother. Don't expect the singer to clam up now that she's a bona fide celebrity. "I’ve never felt like I needed to tone down being seen as a regular person," Taylor said. "When I first started doing MySpace, I wrote my bio in the first person. I didn’t want my MySpace page to look like a publicity promo site, so I was the one doing all the commenting, and I was the one putting up pictures and videos. And I’ve approached my whole career like that — I don’t see that ever changing." Read more...
