It's all about balance when it comes to picking the perfect frock for the Emmys red carpet (not to mention strutting in those sky-high heels too!). Not as formal as the Academy Awards but not as playful as the Video Music Awards, the Emmys require a certain fashion middle ground -- meaning they're perhaps more prone to sartorial slip-ups.
But as we get ready for the 2009 Primetime Emmy Awards this Sunday, we're taking a look back at the red carpet looks that gave us goosebumps -- in a good way. Here are our five favorite looks from the past few years (in no particular order):

In a two-hour special that is airing this Thursday before the premiere of the newest season of "Project Runway" — the first since its move from Bravo to Lifetime — Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman will make a cameo on the special, “Project Runway: All Star Challenge."
The special will bring together some of the show's greatest past competitors including Santino Rice, Jeffrey Sebelia, Sweet P and others, who will be competing for a $100,000 cash prize. It will also have the former contestants reuniting with Tim Gunn, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia and, of course, Heidi Klum. For Nicole's part, she'll be on the show to set up one of the challenges for the contestants, reports Access Hollywood. Read more...
Barbie's had a busy week. First, Mattel announced they would be releasing Barbie and Ken versions of "Twilight"'s star-crossed lovers Bella and Edward. Now comes news the 50-year-old icon will be fashioned into the likeness of "Project Runway" host Heidi Klum. Forget mid-life crisis, it sounds like poor Barbie is having an identity crisis!
According to E! Online, the German supermodel's mini-me will be part of the Blonde Ambition collection, which already includes doppelgangers of Goldie Hawn and Marilyn Monroe, and will be in stores later this year. Read more...
