It's a pivotal moment when an actor from a show you love does something as life changing as cutting his or her hair. So when we found out "Criminal Minds" star Matthew Gray Gubler made that ever-important decision to embrace the scissors, we had to find out why.

"I didn’t have to [cut it for the finale, but] I just did because I know these are always two-parters, so if you want to do something you do it before the finale. So one day I cut it and then told [the producers]," he said, joking that it was almost as scandalous as when Keri Russell cut her hair during "Felicity." "I think it was a little! I've been hearing since day one, 'Cut your hair!' and then finally I did it."

Last week Matthew Gray Gubler directed a very creepy episode of "Criminal Minds" entitled "Mosley Lane," and this week the star of the hit CBS procedural drama turns 30. Thus, we here at Hollywood Crush, who honored the crime-fighting babe as 2009's Hump Day Hottie of the Year (press play below to relive his original HDH video), extend the warmest birthday wishes to the man who makes grandpa sweaters look so good.

It seems that much like our invitation to Stephen Moyer's wedding to Anna Paquin, our invite to Matthew's big birthday bash has also gotten lost in the mail. That's fine, we'll forgive him for it... eventually.

You can wish Matthew a happy birthday in the comments section below!

Alvin the Chipmunks may be the most famous chipmunk boy band on the face of the planet, but as fate would have it only one of the chipmunks can sing in real life. At least that’s what Jesse McCartney, who plays Theodore in "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" (out today), thinks. And we can't help but think he's giving our former Hump Day Hottie, Matthew Gray Gubler, a little jab when he spoke to MTV News about the flick.

"I don’t know, actually that’s a good question. I'm pretty sure Justin [Long, who plays Alvin] doesn’t sing. Matthew may sing," he said. "He looks like the kind of guy that would sing to himself alone in the shower."

Although the boys don’t actually have to do any of their own singing, Jesse notes that one thing he was really excited about was getting a love interest in the flick. His leading lady? None other than funny girl Amy Poehler (what a cougar!).
