FROM MOVIES BLOG: Remember the “Mamma Mia!” movie that came out last year? The one that starred Meryl Streep and was based on the stage musical, which itself was based on a whole bunch of ABBA songs from the '70s? Yeah, well that movie is now the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK box-office, having beaten James Cameron’s “Titanic.” Lemme state that again: “Mamma Mia!” is the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK box-office.
So, there’s gotta be a sequel, right?
“I have heard things about it,” admitted Colin Firth, who played one of the three possible dads who were serenaded by Amanda Seyfried and seduced by Streep in the original hit film.

I have personally always bowed down to the talented and successful Meryl Streep (most because of her diverse resume, which includes things like playing a culinary master in “Julie & Julia,”, a hip, desirable mother in "Mama Mia" and an editrix in “The Devil Wears Prada”), but a new actress might be giving the legend a run for her money — her daughter, Grace Gummer!
According to Reuters, Grace will be making her big television debut on TeenNick’s newest series, “Gigantic.” The 23-year-old will play Anna, a 17-year-old daughter of a celebrity couple. So basically, she'll be mirroring her life and the lives of many other young girls with famous parents (Katie Cassidy and Rumor Willis come to mind). The show will follow Anna through her everyday crazy life being a Hollywood “It” kid.

If someone were to ask you whom the best investment a studio could make for their leading lady in a film, your best guess probably wouldn’t be Naomi Watts. But according to Forbes, the actress best known for her role in “The Ring” offers the best bang for her buck, even more so than Angelina Jolie.
Forbes compiled their top 10 list based on the 100 biggest female stars in Hollywood who have starred in at least three films in the past five years that opened in more than 500 theaters. That rules out most art films, to translate the business lingo. They then calculated each star’s earnings per movie based on their upfront pay, earnings from box office receipts, and DVD and TV sales. This was weighted against a calculated operating income for each film. Still following?

It looks like 2010 may be the year of the sequels for the always-dashing actor Colin Firth. In addition to a rumored third Bridget Jones movie, Colin recently confirmed to Collider.com that a second "Mamma Mia!" may be dancing into theaters soon, though it's likely the flick won't feature any ABBA tunes this time around.
"Benny Andersson [ABBA member and 'Mamma Mia!' composer] was public— quoting what I read in a newspaper—but he said it’s not going to happen with ABBA," Colin explained. "We’re not using the back catalogue. He, I think, has other ambitions, probably. The main thing is they’ve used the songs you would need for that musical and using the rest of the catalogue… I don’t know, you’d have to ask him. From what I’m understanding, the people who do want to make it, are considering the possibility of using another band's music. Why not. But that’s speculation, I’ve got no insight on what will really happen." Read more...
Who doesn’t love Meryl Streep? There’s no doubt she is the greatest actress of her generation — 13 Oscar nominations and two wins are pretty impressive for anyone, let alone someone who hit 60 this June — and one of the most versatile ladies around. After all, eight male thespians wouldn’t dedicate a night of great screen monologues to just anyone, would they?
Variety reported the Sept. 5 performance of great Streep-ologues at LA’s bang. comedy theater was the idea of actor-comedian Roy Cruz. The show, entitled "Streep Tease," will be homage to the best scenes in Meryl’s career, including ones from "The Devil Wears Prada," "Out of Africa" and "Sophie’s Choice." Read more...
With just three weeks until Meryl Streep and Amy Adams’ “Julie & Julia” hits the big screen, we got a sneak peek at the movie and decided it was just too delicious to keep to ourselves. Based on two true stories, the movie follows culinary master Julia Child (Meryl) and Julie Powell (Amy), a blogger who chronicles her experience cooking all of Child’s recipes from her book "Mastering the Art of French Cooking."
So is it c’est magnifique? Let’s just say Meryl and Amy redefine girl power (in the best way possible) and make us want to stay in the kitchen all summer ... despite the heat. Though the two (unfortunately) share zero screen time together, they may just be this summer’s most dynamic duo. Not to mention the ever-so-cute Chris Messina (“Away We Go”) as Amy’s devoted hubby Eric also makes an outstanding performance. Read more...
This week Forbes released its annual Celebrity 100 list ranking the world's most powerful celebrities, including a rundown of the silver screen's highest paid actresses. The top 10 was fairly predictable (actress/ambassador Angelina Jolie took the No. 1 spot), but there were a few surprises (uh, where's Julia Roberts?). Take a look at the full list below:
1. Angelina Jolie, $27 million
2. Jennifer Aniston, $25 million
3. Meryl Streep, $24 million
4. Sarah Jessica Parker, $23 million
5. Cameron Diaz, $20 million
6. Sandra Bullock, $15 million
7. Reese Witherspoon, $15 million
8. Nicole Kidman, $12 million
9. Drew Barrymore, $12 million
10. Renee Zellweger, $10 million
Being the curious folks that we are at Hollywood Crush, we started wondering how this list would shape up 10 years from now, when many of today's tweeners will have come of age and cinema staples like Angelina and Jennifer might be slowing down. While we have no idea how to calculate dollar amounts (we're journalists, duh!), here's a list — and accompanying flipbook — of our best guess at who will be at the top of the marquee in 2019.
