Grandmum Elizabeth already got the biopic treatment thanks to Helen Mirren's Oscar-winning turn in "The Queen," so we guess it's only fitting filmmakers turn their gaze to the fiery spare heir. (Let's be honest, Harry's hijinks make for much better big screen fodder than older brother William's princely ways, right?)
According to Britain's Daily Mail, the film, appropriately titled "The Spare," will "chart [Harry's] life from being trapped in a tragic fairytale to becoming a royal warrior, more at home on the field of battle with his men than in a palace." The screenplay will be finished near the end of the year, with shooting beginning around this time next year.

Sure, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner (deservedly) get the bulk of "Twilight" fans' adoration (including mine), but I also find something so appealing about costar Michael Welch's unassuming charm. Which is why, when I randomly stumbled upon a Web ad yesterday for "Aczone High Starring Twilight's Michael Welch," I just had to click.
As it turns out, Michael is featured in a "High School Musical"-like series of ads for the acne cream, and he couldn't be cuter. With slicked back hair and an even slicker gray suit, the 22-year-old shimmies, shakes and sings (well, most probably lip synchs) in front of a cast of dancing cheerleaders, rebels, jocks and nerds. If "Twilight" ever becomes a musical, this guy would dance circles around uncoordinated RPattz. Just sayin'. Read more...
FROM MTV.COM: Without a doubt, huge groups of Twilighters all over the world fantasize about Edward Cullen every day. But as popular as breakout star Robert Pattinson has become, those who've read "New Moon" know that his character Edward is absent for much of the story. Now, we've got the scoop on director Chris Weitz's dreamy solution to the problem.
"They figured out a very clever way to get Edward back in the film much more than he is in the book," revealed "Twilight" series star Michael Welch when he stopped by the MTV studios recently, acknowledging that Weitz and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg have devised a plan to work around the "New Moon" plot — which has Edward breaking up with Bella (Kristen Stewart) early in the story and fleeing to Italy. "It's more of, like, a hallucination kind of thing." Read more...
One of my favorite scenes from "Twilight" is when Edward takes Bella on a date to play thunderstorm baseball with the rest of the Cullen coven. When she asks why the family is so partial to the sport, Edward simply answers, "Well, it's the American past time." So it seems only fitting that the cast of "Twilight" will be taking to the diamond for a special Vampire Baseball "All-Star" game to celebrate Independence Day, and thanks to Ticketmaster, you can watch!
For $49 you can secure a seat at PGE Park in Portland, Ore. to watch Rachelle Lefevre, Peter Facinelli, Edi Gathegi, Michael Welch, Christian Serratos and more swing for the fences (disclaimer: vampire super-strength and speed not included). For an extra $86, you can upgrade to the "Premium Full-Day Package," which includes the Vampire Baseball game, admission to that evening's Beavers vs. Sky Sox game, a voucher for an autograph and a voucher for dinner, dessert and a soft drink. Oh my! Read more...
FROM MTV.COM:It's a beloved moment in the "New Moon" novel, a rare moment of comic relief as Bella Swan attempts to get over her Edward Cullen-induced heartbreak by going on what becomes a three-way date with the love-struck Jacob Black and Mike Newton. Recently, actor Michael Welch made big news by assuring Twilighters that the scene would be in November's "Twilight" sequel — and now, we've got the scoop on the key tweak masterminded by director Chris Weitz.
"I really should've checked with someone if this is information I can give away or not," grinned Welch, the fan favorite who plays puppy dog-like Mike Newton in the blockbuster series. "But, whatever — here we are."
Welch stopped by the MTV studios to discuss such far-ranging topics as his concern for Robert Pattinson's safety and the "three-way date," a scene that has Bella, Mike and Jacob at a movie theater, watching a horror film. But, in the grand tradition of such films as "The Player," "Bowfinger" and "The Purple Rose of Cairo," director Weitz is inserting his own mini "movie within a movie" into the mix.

FROM MTV.COM: When Robert Pattinson was grazed by a moving taxicab recently, the news rocked legions of "Twilight" fans who feared for their favorite actor's life. His series co-star Michael Welch, however, was surprised to hear the news when he sat down with MTV News on Tuesday.
"No," marveled the actor, who plays Mike Newton in the films. "You are how I stay in touch with this stuff."
Once we briefed Mike on the recent near-tragedy, the affable actor expressed concern for RPattz's health — and a hope that the star's skyrocketing fame crests soon.
