Nicholas Sparks is a man after my own heart. I love that he speaks directly to all of us hopeless romantics out there. He fills books with dreamy fairy tales that a majority of women swoon over, enabling us to openly and endlessly bask our Kleenex for the first time since the iconic romantic dramas of the 1940s like “Casablanca" (sure "Titantic"made us weep buckets, too, but we'll put that under the romantic action drama category for now). Six of his novels have also made it onto the big screen, a commemorative feat in and of itself (those movies include: "The Notebook," "Message in a Bottle," "A Walk to Remember, "Nights in Rodanthe," "Dear John" and “The Last Song”), and a seventh, "The Lucky One," is currently listed on his website as in development.

So, in order to pay full tribute to one of my heroes as "Dear John" has finally made its way into theaters — in its opening weekend, after all, the Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried flick already wrote off reigning champ "Avatar" at the box office — I've decided to assess how this man has changed our world.

Solving head-scratching mysteries is all in a day's work for Jolly Ol' England's most infamous crime-fighting duo. But one quandary that didn't require much sleuthing was the dress code at last evening's "Sherlock Holmes" premiere. Elementary, my dear Crushers, black and white were the order of the night at the film's New York City debut.

Well, not everyone opted for ebony or ivory. Sherlock himself, Robert Downey Jr., channeled a modern-day incarnation of the sleuth in a dapper brown tweed suit and pink tie, while his right-hand man Jude Law opted for an all-black ensemble accented with just a touch of burgundy by his pocket square. Costar Rachel McAdams also rocked the midnight shade in a Jasmini Di Milo bustier top and high-waisted trousers, which seemed a touch casual for the big event. We liked her gray asymmetrical Andrew GN gown from the film's London premiere much better.

In the past few years, a quiet yet remarkably talented actress by the name of Rachel McAdams has worked her way to the silver screen, and now she's also made her way to the cover of Vogue. Posing in a flower printed red Dolce & Gabbana dress and matching red stilettos, the “Sherlock Holmes” star graces the January 2010 issue. In the mag, which hits stands on December 22, the actress talks working with Lindsay Lohan, her fascination with soap operas and much more.

In 2004, Rachel's career jump-started when she starred in “Mean Girls” playing queen bee Regina George alongside Lindsay. “I just remember marveling about how much [Lindsay] knew as an actor, how much she understood," Rachel recalled. "She did very few takes and had this naturalness to her. And beyond that, I was 26 at the time. I’d be asked, ‘Where do you go out?'"

If someone were to ask you whom the best investment a studio could make for their leading lady in a film, your best guess probably wouldn’t be Naomi Watts. But according to Forbes, the actress best known for her role in “The Ring” offers the best bang for her buck, even more so than Angelina Jolie.

Forbes compiled their top 10 list based on the 100 biggest female stars in Hollywood who have starred in at least three films in the past five years that opened in more than 500 theaters. That rules out most art films, to translate the business lingo. They then calculated each star’s earnings per movie based on their upfront pay, earnings from box office receipts, and DVD and TV sales. This was weighted against a calculated operating income for each film. Still following?

Just as everyone has an opinion, a favorite meal and a nose — albeit a fake one at times — so too does everyone have a birthday... even celebrities. Here at Birthday Bash, it's our mission to salute the fine actors, filmmakers and other Hollywood heroes that are celebrating their special day this week. After all, it's cheaper than mailing a cake!

This week brings celebrations for a not-so-mean girl and an amnesiac action hero. Plus, you'll believe a man can fly — and enjoy a birthday cake, too!

Rachel McAdams (October 7): Whether you know her for "Wedding Crashers" or "Mean Girls" — heck, whether you're male or female — chances are exceptionally high that you've fallen in love with Rachel McAdams in one form or another. The sweet faced actress can easily dabble between mean-spirited and happy-go-lucky, with a whole range of emotions in between.

We've already learned from Megan Fox that she, like "Jennifer's Body" scribe Diablo Cody is terrified of high school girls. They're mean, backstabbing and bitchy, and are oftentimes crueler to their female friends then they are to the boys who worship them.

Though a self-proclaimed high school outcast, Megan has perfected the art of the high school bitch, first in the Lindsay Lohan-headlined "Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen," then in "Transformers" (that scene where she first notices Shia Labeouf's Sam is painful to watch) and now as the ultimate high school demon in Jennifer's Body.

To honor the release of the thriller tomorrow, we've decided to a look back at some of the meanest high school girls in cinema, including a Read more...

In their new flick, "The Time Traveler's Wife" Eric Bana can travel through time, which does put a small strain on his love affair with Rachel McAdams ... in the movie, which opens Today, not in real life. Obviously!

So, when MTV News got a hold of the film's stars at the junket for the movie, they shared with us just when and where in time they'd like to be able to time travel to if, you know, they were ever given such amazing abilities. Read more...

When Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana heat up the screen Friday with “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” our hearts are sure to melt when we watch their love story tragically spread across their lives. As a time traveler who can’t control his jumps and the girl who’s been in love with him since he first jumped into her life as a young girl, the duo is sure to wrench as many tears out of us as Rachel did in her last epic love story, “The Notebook.”

But “The Time Traveler’s Wife” is far from the first film to manipulate time for the sake of romance. Here is a look back at some of the best time travel love stories out there. Read more...

The New York premiere of "The Time Travelers Wife" was a reserved affair, highlighted by the always classy Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana. Eric Bana was the focus of our weekly Star-Gazing , and our adoration for the man hasn't changed since then. Looking like the gentleman he is, Eric showed up in a navy tux and vest with a light blue shirt underneath and a gray tie. Demure, but sexy. Lets just say we wouldn't complain if he time traveled into our lives.

However, he did look a little muddled in the photos snapped at the premiere, something we can only assume was from all that jumping years, but Rachel looked radiant in her Emilio Pucci ruched dress from the label's resort 2010 collection. She went a bit racy with the dress deep plunge, but, well she's Rachel McAdams. She pulled it off. The white didn't do much for her skin tone, but the color seemed to be an unfortunate trend at the premiere.

If the swooping love story between Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams wasn't enough reason to head out to movie theaters this weekend to check out "The Time Traveler's Wife," then perhaps the chance to see Eric without clothes on might get your butt in the seat.

But, the actor — who is also the focus of our Star Gazing feature this week — explains the nudity isn't gratuitous. He was told by the movie's time traveling expert (uh, yes those do exist) that he had to be naked. Naked is what happens, apparently, when you time travel. Read more...
