Just as everyone has an opinion, a favorite meal and a nose — albeit a fake one at times — so too does everyone have a birthday... even celebrities. Here at Birthday Bash, it's our mission to salute the fine actors, filmmakers and other Hollywood heroes that are celebrating their special day this week. After all, it's cheaper than mailing a cake!

This week, we're partying down in the U.S.A. for a soon-to-be superhero and a young pop singer.

Miley Cyrus (November 23): It's a genuine party in the U.S.A. today as Miley Cyrus turns 17. The daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley represents the face of entertainment for a young generation of music and film lovers.

Could Ryan Reynolds be Hollywood's new go to guy for romantic comedies? Sure seems like it! The "Definitely, Maybe" actor proved his rom com mettle after starring in this year's "The Proposal", alongside Sandra Bullock, which turned out to be the highest grossing romantic comedy of all time (talk about a resume builder). Now, according to Hollywood Wiretap, he's all set to star in "TMI," a movie centered around the idea that while honesty might be the best policy in a relationship, "too much information" usually isn't (yeah... we couldn't agree more!).

"The House Bunny" star Anna Faris is slated to play Ryan's other-half in the flick (which he's executive producing, by the way) and we couldn't be more excited to see the comedic chemistry between the two. Plus, both are newlyweds (him to Scarlett Johansson, and her to Chris Pratt), so we bet they know a thing or too about relationship dynamics.

Whether he's slaying vampires with stakes or slaying audiences with laughter, there's one thing that everybody can agree upon when it comes to actor Ryan Reynolds — he's pretty awesome.

The Canadian-born actor, recently seen in this summer's "The Proposal" and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," turned 33 years-old today, prompting the crew here at Birthday Bash — which mostly consists of me, but I like referring to myself as a team — to wish the erstwhile Van Wilder a very happy birthday!

If you're not as convinced as I am that Reynolds is a fantastic Hollywood icon worth celebrating, then please indulge me as I run down five reasons we should all be thankful for the actor's continually evolving career.

It's been four months since Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock united on the big screen to play a boss and assistant who "fake" an engagement in the romantic comedy "The Proposal." If you were one of the many moviegoers who took in the highest grossing rom com in history (OK, only in the U.S., but still people, that's quite a feat!) when it was still in theaters, then you'll recall the way the movie ended, leaving us all even more charmed by Ryan that we already were.

You see, after calling off his faux engagement to his Canadian boss, Maggie (Sandra), Ryan's Andrew (SPOILER ALERT!!) realizes he wasn't faking the relationship — he actually has feelings for the rigid bitch! So, in the midst of Maggie's departure from his small Alaskan hometown, Andrew does what any guy in love would do: tries to stop her plane home from taking off so that he can proclaim is love. His attempts fail but we do know the couple winds up together (duh, this is a Sandra Bullock movie after all).

Now, if you can erase everything I just mentioned from your head for oh, five minutes, then you should press play on our exclusive deleted scene below from "The Proposal" DVD/Blu-ray (out Oct. 13), in which Andrew manages to have his buddy send Maggie a message while she's on the aforementioned flight. If this scene had been included in the actual movie, we're not quite sure how it would've changed the outcome ... but god knows if Ryan Reynolds ever called us a "foxy lady," we'd be attempting to turn that plane back around ourselves!

Sultry actress Scarlett Johansson may have played a home-wrecking 20-something in this year's "He's Just Not that Into You," but in real-life, she's busy setting up house and making music. Scarlett, who, let's face it, has been linked to some of Hollywood's most desirable leading men, including Justin Timberlake and Josh Hartnett, tied the knot early last year with actor Ryan Reynolds.

The actress, who was 23 at the time she walked down the aisle, opens up in Glamour's November issue, about the relationship.“I never really thought about getting married—it just kind of happened," she said. "You hope that a relationship makes you better, that you learn things about yourself. … I feel more confident to explore things within myself that I hadn’t thought about in the past.”

The Proposal Today is September 1st, and, though there are still 20 days left of summer, it marks the end of the 2009 summer movie season. The box office numbers show that 2009 was the highest grossing summer ever — surprising for the lack of blockbuster hits (a term typically defined as a film that grosses over $300 million). The biggest surprise to come out of the summer movie roundup came in the form of a Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds rom-com. That’s right: "The Proposal" was the #10 highest grossing film of the summer and, with a $160 total domestic gross, the highest grossing romantic comedy domestically in history.

"But what about the 'Sex and the City' movie?" you may ask yourself in reference to last year’s hugely successful big screen debut of the Big Apple’s fabulous foursome. Well, the "Sex and the City: The Movie" went on to make $415 million worldwide (yes, blockbuster status!), but $262 million of that came from international sales and only $152 million was domestic. It seems then, undebatably, that "The Proposal" is in fact the most successful summer rom-com of all time … in the US. Read more...

Ryan ReynoldsFROM SPLASH PAGE: It appears that Ryan Reynolds has landed the lead role in the live-action “Green Lantern” movie. After a flurry of rumors, speculation and announcements over the last 24 hours regarding who would star in the film, the “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” actor (pictured right as Deadpool) was named as the star of the Martin Campbell-directed film this evening.

Earlier this morning, it was announced that Reynolds was one of three official contenders for the role alongside “The Hangover” star Bradley Cooper and musician/actor Justin Timberlake. According to Variety, “the momentum built for Reynolds in the last week, as he was the only actor whose option was extended.”

Ryan, Bradley and Justin Timberlake As our brother blog Splash Page mentioned earlier today, Ryan Reynolds, Bradley Cooper and Justin Timberlake are the final three moving on in the hopes of becoming America's next top superhero Hal Jordan in 2011's "Green Lantern." Unfortunately, we can't sit in on the screen tests, but we're pretty sure we know how each actor (or in Justin's case singer-actor) measures up. Here's our list of the pros and cons of each would-be superhero. We'll let you decide which hunk should don the coveted power ring.

Ryan Reynolds
Pro: Ryan's already established his superhero cred as Wade Wilson in this summer's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." Heck, he was so good producers gave him his own Deadpool spin-off set for a 2011 release.

Con: Those abs will be out of sight underneath that green suit. Sigh. Read more...

Taylor Kitsch
At 28, the British Columbia native stole our hearts in "Friday Night Lights" as Tim Riggins, the sexy Panther football star. But, it was his role as Gambit in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" that showed everyone that Taylor is one hot force to be reckoned with. Read more...

Sandra Bullock and Ryan ReynoldsBy Haley Murphy

It seems that love can come in a variety of ways, but the classic accidental love story has been popping up all over the place. In the most recent example, “The Proposal,” Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock) forces her assistant Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds) to marry her in order to avoid being deported to Canada. He agrees to marry in exchange for a promotion, and the two engage in what seems to be a business-like partnership. After spending time pretending to be a couple, the duo finds themselves actually falling for each other. Sure, it may seem predictable, but who doesn’t love a happy ending? This isn’t the first time love has “accidentally” conquered all. Here’s a few movies that take on a similar plot line to “The Proposal” and turn out to be “surprising” love story!

1. "What Happens in Vegas"
When you mix Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz in a romantic comedy you know you are in for a (crazy) treat . The movie follows Joy (Cameron), who just got dumped by her fiancé, and Jack (Ashton), who just got fired from his job, as they both retreat to Vegas for the weekend. After a night in sin city, they drunkenly get married and proceed to win $3 million. In order to evenly distribute the money a judge orders them six months of marriage counseling. In the midst of hating each other — shocker! —sparks fly and they fall in love. Who saw it coming? Read more...
