We caught up with the brain's behind the operation, costume designer Hope Hanafin, for an exclusive interview about dressing Zooey's hopelessly unromantic Summer — yes, we also noticed that she was always in shades of blue. "This is a story of boy meets girl..." intones the prescient narrator of the Joseph Gordon-Levitt-Zooey Deschanel romantic comedy "(500) Days of Summer." And so begins the tumultuous love affair between Tom, a hopelessly romantic greeting card writer, and Summer, a girl who doesn't believe in true love. The flick opens today in limited release and to encourage you to head down to the multiplex, we've compiled a list of the top 500 reasons you should see this endearing film.
1. JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT
JGL couldn't be more likable — or relatable — as everyman Tom who struggles with love and career choices, like any good 20-something does. If you liked Joseph in "10 Things I Hate About You" consider Tom the older, slightly wiser (yet still just as adorable!) version of lovesick Cameron. Read more...

The beautiful singer and star of the upcoming film, “500 Days of Summer,” Zooey Deschanel, is rocking the August cover of Self magazine, and shares with us her advice on how to have the best summer yet. The star, who we first took notice of in "Almost Famous," credits her love of the warm months to her great camp memories in New York. "It was classic, swimming and sailing and ice cream and sing-alongs!" she recalled.
Although Zooey is keeping busy working on her second album, promoting "500 Days of Summer" and planning her wedding to Death Cab for Cutie singer, Ben Gibbard, she seems to keep a cool head about it all. She says, “You can’t force fun, but you can set up situations where fun will happen to you.” Read more...

In the romantic comedy "(500) Days of Summer" Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as hopelessly romantic greeting-card writer Tom who embarks on an ill-fated love affair with cynical Summer (Zooey Deschanel), a woman who doesn't believe true love exists. The film doesn't open until July 17, but we've nabbed an interview with JGL, in which we asked him to dish on his own thoughts about rom coms and heartbreak [insert "awwww" here].
The actor told MTV that his favorite romantic comedies, like "Swingers" and "Amelie," combine humor and honest emotion — something he strived for in "Days." "When I first sat down with Marc Webb [the director] we had a profound conversation about love and heartbreak," the actor explains. "The movie finds humor in these things but doesn’t dismiss it. I’ve been heartbroken before and I’ve been in love. And these are not silly shallow things. These are feelings that rock your very life. We wanted to make a movie that while it was funny and entertaining to watch, didn’t dismiss how real and strong those feelings can be." Read more...
